Everlight: China’s LED Streetlight Market Will Grow by 15-20% Annually — LEDforum 2009 Report (7)

The total value of global LED lighting industry has declined by 14% to US$ 2.14 billion in 2009 under the influence of global economic downturn; however, with the energy saving policies being released by governments around the world and “green” topics gaining increasing concern, this market will rapid pick up from 2010, and is estimated to reach US$5.27billion in value by 2012, Stephan Greiner, Vice President of Everlight Electronics’ global business group said on Nov. 24th at the LEDforum 2009.

Among the diversity of LED lighting applications, the outdoor lighting and residential lighting are two segments that have been growing the fastest, with a compound annual growth rate of 99.1% and 102% respectively. The estimated value of global LED streetlight market is US$193 million for 2009, with a 5-6% annual growth rate. And the growth is especially rapid in China, he noted, where the rate would reach 15-20% after 2009.

Talking of the future development of LED outdoor lighting, Stephan suggested six possible trends for discussion:

  • ECO Solutions for Environment Protection
  • Higher Efficiency for Replacing Traditional Outdoor Lighting Fixtures
  • The Price of LED Lighting Fixtures will drop based on scale & synergy effects & technological development
  • The uniformity of light will be better and light pattern will offer more varieties to fit various outdoor applications
  • Multiple Design Possibilities due to the various LED packages
  • No limit of color change (Full Color Available) will empower new application fields
