Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2009: European and U.S. Manufacturers in the Exhibition

European and U.S. Manufacturers in the Exhibition

Cree

Cree, the leading U.S.-based LED manufacturer, had its booth in Exhibition Hall 1.1. The major products exhibited by the company were LED components, which attracted a number of visitors. As the company’s featured product on the show, the XP-E,MC-E series, boasts its compact size and high luminous efficacy. The MC-E series, on the other hand, emphasizes multi-chip technology with its color-adjustable function.

Cree’s XP-E full-color series features only 20% of the dimension of the XR-E series, with a size of merely 3.45 mm*3.45 mm. The Cold White series has luminous efficiency of 87~114 Lm/W.

The MC-E series adopts 4-chip, high power, multi-chip package, with package size of 7.0 mm*9.0 mm*4.48 mm. The packaging pattern is the same as that of a single-chip high power packaging. The Full Color series has a single-chip package which includes red, blue, green and white chips, featuring both high luminous efficacy and color adjustability. Also, the four white light chips can be sealed in one package, with the maximum overall luminous flux reaching 430Lm@350mA, and the adviced operational current at 700mA.

Philips

The leading lighting company Philips did not exhibit LED components from Lumileds as it attended the fair as a lighting manufacturer. The products exhibited by the company were all finished lamps, with very few innovative products seen in the booth.

Unlike products from other LED manufacturers, Philips lamps feature unique designs which were inrecognizable as LED lamps at first sight. Philips also invested heavily in booth decoration, transforming it into a commercial and indoor space to showcase its lighting products.

Applications for Commercial Space Lighting

OSRAM

OSRAM has showcased its Golden Dragon Plus series in the show. This series currently has a maximum luminous efficacy of 112 Lm(@350mA).

In addition to LED components, OSRAM also exhibited LED streetlights produced by its cooperating company as well as other lighting products. OSRAM mentioned that it will be one of the partner suppliers of the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.

Relevant Lighting Applications

GE

The leading traditional lighting company GE also introduced its LED-relevant lighting products in the show, which is a sign that it has stepped into the Solid-State Lighting field.
However, apart from LED refrigeration bars, LED bulbs and sodium lamps used in Olympic stadiums, few innovative products were exhibited.

LOK-F of Germany

The German firm has exhibited its unique LED bulb technology in its booth this year. This LED bulb features extremely wide light emitting angle and uniform light distribution, solving the problem of high directivity of LEDs.

Speculations are that the core technology of the product does not rely on the LED lighting source, but in the second stage of packaging, uniform light distribution and wide vision angle can be achieved through micro-structure processing or the addition of certain special chemical material. However, as the product is still in R&D phase, the company said that it is currently not commercially available and appeared rather low-key.
