At Lighting Japan 2010, in addition to the LED lighting products which can replace various conventional indoor or outdoor light sources in terms of brightness specification, other special applications were also showcased, such as products designed to meet different needs using the wavelength characteristics of LED light sources for applications in plant nursery (agricultural industry), fishing industry, livestock breeding industry, and medical cosmetic industry.
Plant nursery
Each living creature has its own fittest living environment. As for the sunflower, it is discovered by researchers that red light with the wave length of 725nm is most suitable for its growth.
Therefore, “plant nurseries” are developed for such industrial needs. Using LED light sources in the plant nursery, agriculturists are able to provide the most suitable light source to facilitate the growth of the plant according to the characteristics of the plant.
Fishing Industry
Fish luring lamps are developed on the basis of LED’s directionality and high penetrability. The shallow water fish luring lamp has a wide lighting area, used to attract fish within 2 meter depth beneath the water surface; while the straight down LED light is utilized to lure fish gathering deep in the sea. Both lamps will boost the catch.
Livestock breeding industry
The usually wet chicken raising environment gives full play to the moisture-proof characteristic of LED semiconductor package. Moreover, the adjustable LED light can be applied to control ambient light and provide the most suitable environment for growth.
Medical cosmetic industry
LED lights of various wavelengths have their benefits in the medical cosmetic indusry. For example, the blue light has calming effects and helps with concentration; the yellow light can be used for anti-aging, anti-blemish, whitening, blemish removal, and wrinkle treatment; while the red light stimulates collagen production, treats little wrinkles, pores and post operative swelling.
In addition to special applications mentioned above, some other lighting applications were discovered at the exhibition which also utilize the unique characteristics of LEDs, including the music walls/boxes with variable light sources that change with the music, local Japanese style lamps, and ambience lighting products that adjust light sources accordingly.
