Lighting Japan 2010 Show Report 2 — The Scale of Lighting Japan to Double in 2011

Lighting Japan 2010 was successfully concluded on April 16th, 2010. As its invited guest, LEDinside had the opportunity to visit Takeshi Tanaka, the executive director of Reed Exhibitions Ltd which hosted Lighting Japan, to learn more about the uniqueness of the exhibition.

Lighting Japan 2010

Lighting Japan was co-organized by Finetech Japan and Filmtech Japan this year. Although it is only the second time the event was held, the event has seen significant growth in terms of exhibitors and visitors. There were 218 exhibitors in 2009, and the figure reached 400 in 2010. A total of 20,536 visitors attended Lighting Japan 2010. Adding the other two exhibitions, visitors count for the Tokyo Big Sight international exhibition center has totaled 66,739.

Uniqueness of Lighting Japan

Among numerous and intensive global LED exhibitions, how does Lighting Japan differentiate itself from other LED shows as a unique market segment? Mr. Tanaka said that Lighting Japan is not simply an exhibition to show lighting applications. It displays more LED/OLED peripheral components and equipment than other exhibitions. As Japanese manufacturers possess excellent material technologies, Lighting Japan is expected to attract participation from industry players all over the world by highlighting Japanese technologies.

Outlook for Lighting Japan 2011

As a result of the active participation of Asian makers over the past two years, many business deals were made possible during Lighting Japan 2010, added Mr. Tanaka. Therefore, many exhibitors have requested for larger booth in 2011. In this case, Lighting Japan 2011 is expected to be held in January, 2011, co-organized with Japanese consumer electronics show. Lighting Japan 2011 will occupy the entire west exhibition hall of the Tokyo Big Sight, doubling the scale of the 2010 exhibition.

Since non-Japanese industry players accounted for 30% of the exhibitors in 2010, the ratio is expected to exceed 50% in 2011, making the exhibition more international.
