Osram’s managing board is complete again. At an extraordinary meeting on Monday, the supervisory board of the lighting company appointed Ingo Bank as new CFO of OSRAM Licht AG. Ingo Bank, 48, joins Osram from Parexel, a U.S. biopharmaceutical service provider where he served as Chief Financial Officer. He will take up his post at Osram on September 1, 2016. "In Ingo Bank, we have found a financial expert with a proven track record and a strong international background. At the same time, he has extensive knowledge of technology markets, including the lighting industry," said Peter Bauer, chairman of the supervisory board of OSRAM Licht AG. Ingo Bank's term will run for three years.

Osram’s U.S. branch announced on Twitter recently it kickstarted a social media channel for its separate lighting business entity LEDVANCE.

The new LEDinspect PRO series comprises five high-performance LED work lights: Slimline 280, Bonnet 1400, Pocket 280, Penlight 150 and Penlight 150 UV-A. “We have further developed the LEDinspect range to create the new LEDinspect PRO products, providing professional users with durable and flexible LED lighting solutions that are ideally designed to meet the requirements of vehicle inspection and maintenance work”, said Petra Maya Wilhelm, Product and Portfolio Manager at Osram.

OLED technology opens up completely new design options for light sources which are generating huge interest among customers in the automotive industry. As part of the R2D2 project sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), research was carried out into flexible OLEDs, the next innovation in this technology. “Progress in OLED technology is rapid”, said Dr. Marc Luennemann, Head of OLED at Osram. “With the successful completion of the project the partners demonstrated impressively that we can expect flexible OLEDs to be ready for series production in only a few years’ time – above all for automotive lighting.”

Aside from increasing the visual playing conditions for both players and spectators, as well as minimising shadows, stadium lighting is also under strict guidelines enforced by associations such as Union of European Football Associations. This guarantees that experiences of those watching a match on television have the same viewing experience as those watching inside the stadium. If football is truly seen as the “beautiful game”, then the necessity to provide audiences consistent and true-to-life visual experiences is crucial.

OSRAM ZELION® HL300 series of fully spectra tunable and dimmable horticulture LED lighting fixtures from OSRAM SYLVANIA will be available mid-July for use in various phases of crop growth. The series, which includes the ZELION HL300 Grow Light, ZELION HL300 Grow White and ZELION HL300 Sunlight, were designed to meet the specific growing needs of commercial greenhouses, garden centers, research facilities and universities. These long-life LED fixtures use superior OSRAM Oslon® LEDs from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors that emit light in the photosynthetic active region of the visible light spectrum (400–700 nm) for optimal plant growth. UL-certified for horticultural lighting and RoHS compliant, the fixtures also offer the highest micromoles per watt compared to similar class LED fixtures.

June 21 to 23, 2016 will feature the latest movie productions and the latest technologies in the cinema industry. Osram will be presenting further developments of the classic XBO lamps for cinema projectors under the slogan “Light is glamour”. On show at booth 323 will be a number of products including extremely long-life models and new additions to the portfolio for projectors from Canadian manufacturer Christie.

Having further developed its successful Phaser 3000, Osram has added the Phaser 500 to its portfolio and is continuing to develop this laser-excited phosphor technology which was first introduced in 2012. The upgraded phaser with a record luminance of 3700 cd/mm² and smaller size compared to the predecessor version can be used in optical fibers with a diameter of less than one millimeter. Phaser 500 is therefore ideal for endoscopy, boroscopy and measurement applications that require a particularly high luminance. Holger Laabs, Product Marketing Medical and Industrial SSL at Osram summed up the benefits of the new product as follows: “In further developing the phaser we have achieved a considerable improvement in performance and at the same time made operating the phaser easier for the user”.

Top soccer deserves the best lighting. The European soccer championship was kicked off on June 10 in the French national stadium with the opening match being France versus Romania, and the floodlights will be provided by Osram. 477 rotationally symmetric projectors will create optimum visual conditions for both athletes and spectators. As well as the stadium in Paris Osram has also equipped the stadiums in Lille and Marseille with state-of-the-art lighting technology. "We've been presenting the world’s largest sports arenas with the best light for decades. As a complete solution provider we're able to illuminate everything from a single source, ranging from parking lots, stadium facades and access routes to indoor spaces and the playing field itself," stated Eladia Pulido, Head of the Osram Lighting Solutions business division.

Osram Lighting Solutions successfully held the significant specifier event in the Moodify Night Wuhan on Captain No.9, Yantze River, Wuhan, China on 27th May 2016. Around 80 participants including influential lighting designers, architects and customers gathered together to enjoy the lighting show by over 300 buildings along 20 kilometers river sides as well as to gain inspiration from the moody atmosphere.

Project Sumaary After more than 15 years, the skatepark in Otto-Dullenkopf-Park in Karlsruhe has been completely redesigned and expanded. Therefore, the architects in charge DSGN concepts searched for an energy-efficient and attractive modern full-area lighting solution. Floodlight 20 midi LED luminaires from OSRAM subsidiary Siteco now provide an innovative and flicker-free LED lighting solution that allows the new spectacular skatepark to be used until 10 pm, offering strong light on demand for the skaters.

This is the day on which the current Osram Lamps business division will become legally independent and will therefore become Ledvance GmbH.

AcroOptics, a research lighting company with product lines focused on aquaculture, algaculture, horticulture and biological research, has developed the CRAVE LED Reef Aquarium Lighting System, a configurable native habitat simulation lighting system for aquaculture and reef aquariums, illuminated with LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors.

The Taris luminaire family designed by the renowned Berlin design studios of Aisslinger has an elegant and integrative design with a new Optical Core System based on a combination of louvre and lens technology. Construction of comprehensive optic fiber networks and maturing Internet technology are ushering innovative technology developments. LEDinside observed the emergence of more innovative technology products at CES Asia 2016, which took place in Shanghai, China recently. Growing number of products require the integration of IR sensor technologies, such as trending virtual reality (VR) headsets, or wearable fitness devices for measuring heart rates and pulse. StrongLED Lighting Systems, a company registered in Cayman Islands, but with operations based in Taiwan and China is rumored to have acquired Osram’s outsurce orders, reported Taiwanese media Commercial Times.

The winners of the Lighting Design Awards were distinguished for the fortieth time in London. Four of the award-winning projects were implemented with lighting solutions from Osram.

For this year’s European Football Championships Osram has come up with a special treat for football fans who want to show their support with something more than just the usual accessories, namely the Light Champion Deutschland Edition – H4 and H7 halogen headlight lamps in black, red and gold for various car models. They will be available from the middle of May exclusively online from Amazon and stationary from ATU.

During the Eurovision Song Contest in May, Osram will bathe the Swedish capital in bright colors that show what viewers think of the songs. The Munich-based lighting specialist will light up seven landmarks in Stockholm and countless living rooms around the world with the help of light control during the semifinals and finals of the song contest. The color of the lights will reflect each song's appeal to viewers.

As pioneers in entertainment lighting, Osram and Clay Paky are once again being entrusted to provide exceptional lighting effects for the shows staged at the Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Stockholm from May 10 to 14, 2016. Around 1,000 moving heads equipped with state-of-the-art light sources will be used to present, in the best possible light, the contestants from 42 countries during the semi-finals and the final. “We are really pleased to be back at this prestigious event with our lighting products”, said Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO of the Specialty Lighting business unit at Osram. Frederik Jönsson, the lighting designer for this year’s contest added: “For lighting designers the Eurovision Song Contest is like the Holy Grail. It attracts an enormous number of viewers from all over the world, and it's a huge challenge: to do it and to do it right.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) latest sustainability campaign is offering discounts of up to 25% to selected brand LED bulbs to urge local residents to switch to more energy efficient and environmental friendly lights, reported Gulf News.

“The second quarter was outstanding. We have achieved the best result in more than twenty quarters. And for the first time in ten quarters, revenue showed a noticeable increase nominally as well as on a comparable basis. This shows that our innovation and growth strategy is taking us in the right direction. Osram will successfully continue along this path. The foundation couldn’t be stronger,” said Olaf Berlien, Chief Executive Officer of OSRAM Licht AG.

The multi-level MLA (Multi-Lens Array) optical system ensures optimum glare elimination and high visual comfort. Scriptus comes as a surface-mounted or suspended version with various lengths and lumen levels to ideally illuminate differing office configurations. The luminaire is equipped as standard with a DALI control unit and on request with integrated daylight and motion sensors. A Lightify Pro version is also available for wireless, app-based light control. In addition to 3000K and 4000K light colours, a tunable white version will also be available for biologically effective light in office environments.

“Start-up meets Grown-up” is the slogan chosen by Osram and the Berlin start-up company Bär-Drones for presenting their innovative concepts which will enable drones to be used for filming or for video monitoring of extensive areas. The promising results of this cooperation can be seen in the Digital Factory at booth C34 in Hall 7 during the Hanover fair which runs from April 25 to 29, 2016.

With LIGHTIFY Pro, installers and building managers can install a wireless lighting solutions with little effort for their customers, in offices, medical practices, law firms, agencies, restaurants and shops. No data wiring or wall openings are required.

At its meeting today, the supervisory board of OSRAM Licht AG decided key changes in the composition of the managing board. In line with the company’s stronger technology focus, the supervisory board appointed Stefan Kampmann, 52, as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with effect from July 1, 2016. “We are happy to gain an experienced top manager and technology expert for Osram’s managing board,” said Peter Bauer, chairman of the supervisory board of OSRAM Licht AG. “His experience will give additional momentum to our innovation and growth initiative.” The supervisory board has also decided, for reasons of differing views regarding the strategic direction of the company and in best mutual agreement with Klaus Patzak, to launch a structured process to find a successor for the position of Chief Financial Officer.

Osram is expanding its LED floodlight range with a further large construction size in the form of the Floodlight 20 Maxi LED. As a result, the flexible floodlight series is now available in four sizes and with luminaire luminous flux levels from 3,000 to 100,000 lumens. The lens optic ensures precise light control, minimizes glare and also achieves best results with quality of light and efficiency.

Emerging IR LED market applications in wearables and virtual reality device markets are attracting more manufacturers to join, said representatives from Osram and LiteOn at IR+UV Summit that organized by SEMI that took place at Nangang Exhibition Hall in Taipei, Taiwan on Thursday.
