Vizio, the U.S.-based sales arm for Taiwan Amtran Technology has signed a patent cross-licensing agreement with LG to reconcile over a years-long patent infringement dispute. According to Samsung Electro-Mechanics, driven by increased demand for memory-chip components and LED parts, its earnings almost doubled in 2010. Learning from the company said in a regulatory filing, its net profit surged 95 percent last year from a year earlier to reach 555 billion won (US$497 million).Sales grew 26 percent on-year to 6.97 trillion won, and operating income also rose 61 percent to 778 billion won....

Reportedly, South Korea-based OCI Co. Ltd. has injected $33 million to order sapphire crystallization furnaces from GT Solar, marking OCI's entrance into the LED industry and GT Solar's first commercial sale of its sapphire crystallization furnaces in Korea. Lately, Samsung Electronics has showcased a new model of its edge-type LED-backlit LCD panel at CES Unveiled, a press conference prior to the 2011 International CES. According to a Samsung staffer, different with the case where LED backlight units are set on all the four sides ,they placed backlight units on the right and left sides of the panel so that the power consumption of the panel can be reduced.  

Samsung Electronics has showed off more than 40 new LED models with screen sizes from 19-inches to 65-inches at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The new TVs offer dramatically enhanced picture quality in 2D, 3D, HD and streaming content, as well as richer connected entertainment options delivered through one of the most comprehensive offering of apps and connected devices. In addition, Samsung will also expand the number of 3D TV models available in 2011.

It’s announced that LG will unveil the world's largest 72-inch full LED 3D TV at Consumer Electronics Show 2010 starting January 6. This full LED 3D TV boasts of Smart TV feature that pulls premium content like video on demand and App Store. It also features True motion 480Hz technology that promises almost no jarring images while watching fast action videos on the screen. It suits for watching 3D and 2D multimedia content.

LG Innotek, a subsidiary of Korea’s LG Group, has developed a partnership with lighting firm Zumtobel Group of Dornbirn, Austria to transfer high-volume business in LED backlights for LCD screens to the field of professional lighting.

LG has rolled out two new lines of HDTVs , called the LW9500 and LW7700 Nano Full LED TV series that use its new Nano Lighting Technology which refers to LG's new method of using LEDs in HDTVs, as well as a new sound bar with six speaker drivers and a separate wireless subwoofer.   LG's Nano LED TVs embed the LEDs behind the LCD panel in a thin film that disperses the light across the set.

LG has launched its new E90 monitor at just 7.2 mm in depth, the company's slimmest LED monitor so far. The E90 has a response time of just 2 milliseconds, which can remains clear and bright even during fast-moving action sequences. In addition, in accordance with its ultra slim design, the LG E90 places the power supply and the socket connecting the monitor with the PC on the back of the stand, an innovation called EZ-cabling.

LG has shown off the 72-inch LZ9700 LED TV, which is considered as the world’s biggest 3D full LED TV. It measures in at 59 inches wide and 40 inches tall. with LG's smart technologies, it allow users to access information online by using the contents cube feature.   Additionally, users can access YouTube and Google's Picasa and get further connectivity with a smart Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) function.

Recently, LG’s LED lighting and Plasma Lighting System (PLS) products has received official certifications from European, Chinese, Japanese and Korean governments for energy efficiency, quality, safety and eco-friendliness. Based on these certifications, LG will kick off a global roll-out of its newest green business initiative as a total lighting solution provider.

According to an interview from South Korea, bell pepper farmers are using LED lights used as a substitute for sunlight to grow the plant. One famer in the interview pointed that they are desperately lacking sunlight because of the recent climate change. So they installed LED lights as a substitute.   For the past eight months this farm has been experimenting with using LED lights to grow bell peppers.

South Korea is seeking the investment opportunities with Brunei Darussalam on the fields of Smart Grid and LED technology. A South Korean investment mission led by the Asean-Korea Centre and comprising 16 Korean company representatives and related experts have presented a meeting with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB). LG Kicks off to roll out the world's largest commercial 3D LED-backlit TV . It has released 72-inch 72LEX9 widescreen in Korea with a 480Hz True Motion panel, DLNA connectivity, and now-typical support for plenty of online sites and programs such as YouTube. It's reported that this behemoth of a display is poised to ship during the second quarter of 2011. However,the  prices are still not disclosed.

LG Electronics has launched a 72-inch 3-D-equipped LED TV in the South Korea market. The new LED TV model features the largest screen among the 3-D LED TVs available in the market. The new product is priced at 20 million won (US$17,825). According to the company spokesman Park Young-shin, the 72-inch TV will be launched in the global market early in 2011.

LG has released the Xnote A510 3D, which is considered as the "world's first" near full HD 3D laptop. The Xnote A510 is capable of converting 2D content into 3D. LG also includes a pair of clip-on 3D lenses for "regular glasses-wearers."

According to the managing director of OLED Association, Barry Young, Samsung choose Dr. H. K. Chung to lead the start-up of their OLED program. Due to Chung's contributions to the whole OLED community as well as his leadership in R&D and manufacturing of OLED displays for Samsung SDI, the predecessor to Samsung Mobile Displays (SMD), Young presented Chung with the first Annual OLED Leadership Award before the twelfth annual OLED World Summit.
