GE to Roll out New LED Light Bulbs In Fall

GE is about to roll out its Energy Smart line of LED incandescent replacement light bulbs within the next 16 months.  The replacement for the dimmable 60-watt bulb will come  in November, in the form of a 13-watt, smart LED. By the end of 2012, the replacements for both 75-watt and 100-watt GE bulbs will be available in 18 and 27-watt varieties. Reportedly, Giant Olympic rings and the Paralympic Agitos, the swirling symbol of the Paralympics, will shine from Tower Bridge throughout the London 2012 Games. GE, Cree Deny LED Supply Deal

As Canaccord Genuity analyst has noted that Cree won a deal with GE, both the two company denied that the largest U.S. conglomerate has selected the lighting manufacturer to supply GE light-emitting diodes, disputing an analyst's assertion. "There is no basis for this rumor. We have not made a decision," said Kim Freeman, a spokeswoman for GE's appliance and lighting unit. GE's LED Products Helps to Cut The Cost of The Chips Used in The Bulbs

According to the division's chief of General Electric, its lighting unit may draw as much as 75 percent of sales from LED products within the next decade, compared with less than 10 percent now, which means rising competition among GE suppliers is helping cut the cost of the chips used in the bulbs.   It's said that U.S. legislation will bring an end to production of the 100-watt incandescent bulb in 2012, prompting consumers to switch to other types including halogen and compact fluorescents.
