The market estimated that LED lighting products’ prices would drop by 15-20% each year amid increase competition in the market as vendors reduce prices to gain market share, which even be fall to one-third of current prices. At first, the Japanese market appeared to price war in 2009. Sources from LED companies indicated that the price competition had extended to China, Europe and the US.

With the strong demand, Royal Philips Electronics expected LED lighting revenues to reach 15% of its total lighting revenues for 2010 and over 20% in 4Q10. And in 2015, the company aimed to reach 50% of its total lighting revenues.

Some Taiwan LED companies strengthened their development on the LED lighting segment, as LED lighting market was expected to increase about 50% in 2011 by industry sources. Epistar estimated that the ratio of LED lighting products to its total production would grow up to 30% in 2011 from 20% in 2010, while Tekcore and Formosa Epitaxy both were expected to add ratios to 30% in 4Q10.

The Chinese decorative lighting manufacturer Neo-Neon LED Lighting International Ltd. will open 2,000 LED lighting fixtures shops in three to five years throughout mainland China, which is estimated an investment of 500 million Chinese yuan (US$73 million). B.Y. Fan, the company’s chairman, noted that the company opened its first retail shop in Hong Kong early this year and will open a store in Taipei next year.
