At SFT Lighting’s “Intelligent Control LED light source” press conference held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) on November 9, 2010, SFT Lighting and CREE officially signed the first order of high power LED chips in the amount of RMB 100 million (~USD 15 million, at 1 USD = 6.64 CNY).

This paper presents a 75W single-stage power supply unit for LED lighting. The proposed power supply designed using flyback converter topology that is controlled by the critical conduction mode control. The secondary side of main transformer is directly connected to LED strings. By a constant current feedback circuit, this flyback converter directly regulates LED current. Although the proposed circuit doesn’t need input current-sensing and input voltage feed-forward, it can achieve high power factor for wide input range. A prototype experimental set-up has been built and tested. Through this experiment with a prototype set-up, the validity of the proposed circuit is verified.

Cree, Inc. (Nasdaq: CREE) expands its family of high-power color LEDs with the availability of XLamp® XP-C color LEDs in royal blue, blue, green, amber, red-orange and red. These new XP-C LEDs are 10-to-50 percent brighter than Cree’s previous midrange color LEDs. XLamp XP-C color LEDs are designed for 0.5-watt to 1-watt operation and can provide a cost-effective solution for many color lighting applications. The company WhiteOptics LLC in Newark has received $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop new technology: a highly reflective material that will improve efficiency, lifetime and cost for LED light fixtures. This funding will create and-or save approximately five jobs immediately and has the potential to create 100 direct manufacturing jobs and hundreds of downstream installation-related jobs, depending on  the degree of commercialization success.

Fiberoptics Technology Inc. (FTI) announces the launch of a high power LED light engine for large active diameter medical and industrial applications. The patent pending device will be certified by ETL under the UL lab/industrial protocol, and will be CE certified. The unit will be manufactured at the company's new electronic assembly facility in Pomfret CT beginning in April 2010. FTI began designing and manufacturing light source products in 2004.

Larson Electronics’ magnalight.com introduced the LEDEUL4 underwater LED light for wet area and submerged applications. At 12 watts, this LED light can be configured with visible, color or infrared LEDs and operates on 9-32 volts. Producing 720 lumens and measuring 4.25 inches in diameter and 1.25 inches thick, the underwater LED light is mounted with three through holes. The sealed junction box design eliminates the need for ‘bedding’ concerns and ensures watertight and moisture tight design.
