LED bulb prices stabilized in July 2014, according to a latest report from LEDinside, a research subdivision of TrendForce. The research organization noted, in general the global market underwent small price fluctuations. Only a few markets had seen large price fluctuations because of sales promotions, and overall bulb prices declined the most in Germany.
The research organization’s latest statistics revealed 40W equiv. LED bulbs retail prices incrementally increased by 0.6 percent, with Average Sales Price (ASP) still around US $14.4. However, the German market saw 40W equiv. LED bulb prices drop 5.4 percent last month. Most bulbs on the German market saw prices steadily fall, and rising currency exchange rates contributed to declining ASP. The 40W equiv. LED bulbs in Japan also saw prices drop 1.2 percent among existing products. Although, most product prices remained the same, some product prices dropped more than others, for instance the price of Irish Oyama 8.8W LED bulb which has a luminous flux of 500 lm plunged from US $15.8 to US $5.8.
In contrast, 40W equiv. LED bulb prices were up 8.5 percent in the U.S. market during the same period because of existing products’ rising prices, for instance Philips 8W LED bulb price nearly doubled last month. Additionally, 40W equiv. LED bulb prices in China and Taiwan were also up 5.4 percent and 0.1 percent respectively in July 2014. The price uptick mainly came from fluctuating currency exchange rates, since there were no changes in existing product prices.
In general, global 60W equiv. LED bulb asp was down by 0.4 percent to US $19.3. Prices for 60W equiv. LED bulbs in the German market declined the most in in July 2014 by 1.6 percent. The prices of existing products showed fluctuation, while ending sales promotion for certain products caused greater price fluctuations, for instance after the promotion period concluded LG 12.8W bulb prices shot up from US $7.9 to US $19.1. Additionally, rising currency exchange rates caused LED bulb prices to drop in the German market. In the U.S. market 60W equiv. LED bulb prices showed an incremental increase of 0.7 percent. Existing product prices continued to fluctuate in the U.S. market, while certain product prices climbed up, for instance Philips 11W 830 LM bulb price increased from US $9 to US $15.
