LED TV, the latest high-end technology product in TV market, is to be available in India within the next few months, as Samsung, LG, Panasonic and TCL all targeting to release their products in this market soon.
Deputy Managing Director R Zutshi of Samsung India told media, "This year, Samsung will introduce a full lineup of LED TVs that achieve mega-contrast ratios."
Made of environment friendly products, consuming low energy and containing no mercury, LED TVs will create even more excitement in the fast growing, high-end technology TV market in India as soon as it got introduced, Zutshi said.
LG, Panasonic and TCL are also gearing up to introduce LED TV in the domestic market.
"We will be launching LED TV in the next two-three months. It will be a global launch of this series and would introduce it in India at the same time," said Moon Bum Shin, Managing Director of LG Electronic India Ltd.
Different from LCD TVs which uses normal liquid crystal display technology, LED TVs are based on a new technology using LED (light emitting diodes) in the panels.
"Soon, we are going to introduce our new range of LED TV in the country," Panasonic India General Manager Marketing Sabiha Kidwai said.
However, the TV makers haven’t disclosed pricing of LED TVs, while according to industry experts, LED TV are likely to be priced around 30-40 per cent higher than LCD and would further expand the market for flat panel display products.
"Our portfolio will be targeted for commercial use as an outdoor media. We are currently firming up the business plan for this segment. Our LED TV will be customised as per the buyer's requirement," TCL India Holdings Pvt Ltd President James Li said.
The total LCD and flat screen TV market is around seven lakh units per year and is expected to double in the next few years.
