ilumisys, Inc., developer and producer of next-generation solid-state lighting technology, announced today that channel partner Ecogreen Solutions Inc. has installed LED light tubes at Holiday Inn San Diego Downtown in San Diego to improve lighting quality and lower energy costs.
Los Angeles-based Ecogreen Solutions replaced T-8 fluorescent lights in the hotel’s subterranean parking lot with ilumisys MK2 T-8 LED light tubes, which will result in a cost savings of nearly $5,000 annually and a 57 percent energy savings over the previously installed 32 watt fluorescent fixtures. A second phase of the project will include the installation of ilumisys tubes for general illumination of the hotel’s administration offices.
“We were seeking new ways to improve the lighting in our parking structure while also lowering our energy consumption and costs,” said Gary Comeaux, general manager of Holiday Inn San Diego Downtown. “After reviewing several lighting options with Ecogreen Solutions, we decided to use ilumisys tubes because of their performance and quality construction.”
Holiday Inn San Diego Downtown also benefits from a “zero out-of-pocket” financing program through a local utility company, which helps to keep initial costs at a minimum.
“Hotels nationwide are realizing that there are more efficient and sustainable methods for lighting than fluorescent tubes, especially in areas that are lit 24/7,” said ilumisys President Dave Simon. “In addition to lowering energy consumption, Holiday Inn San Diego Downtown will also experience significantly lower utility bills as a result of installing ilumisys LED tubes.”
In addition to providing energy efficiency, unlike the fluorescent tubes they replace, the ilumisys tubes are mercury-free. The 500 million to 600 million fluorescent tubes discarded annually in the United States introduce an estimated two to four tons of mercury into the environment, despite industry and government efforts to limit mercury content and encourage recycling.
