JDI to Showcase Micro LED Display with Chips from glō

Japan Display (JDI) announced the development of a Micro LED display. The prototype Micro LED display will be presented at “FINTECH JAPAN 2019,” which is taking place in Makuhari Messe from December 4 to 6, 2019.

The 1.6-inch Micro LED display of JDI is based on LTPS backplane developed by the company and Micro LED chips from glō, a Micro LED technology provider. The display achieves a resolution of 265 ppi with a pixel number of 300*300.

JDI also noted that the Micro LED display has a wide viewing angle of 178 degree and a luminance of 3,000 nits, delivering high brightness without backlight.

According to the report of Nikkei Tech, the Micro LED display is expected to be implement for automotive application such as in-vehicle displays or HUD. However, mass production for the product is not scheduled yet.

Besides the Micro LED display, JDI will showcase its transparent LCD display at FINTECH JAPAN 2019 as well. The company reported revealed a 12.3-inch transparent LCD display with a transparency rate of 87% when it is not displaying, similar to normal transparent glass. The company expects mass production of the transparent display in 2020.
