Newport News Park Gets LED Makeover to Celebrate Festival

Newport News Park’s displays are being replaced by LED bulbs to celebrate the festival.

According to J. Michael Nealer, parks administrator, the new LEDs use 1/12 of the power of incandescent bulbs. All new displays, starting in 2005, are outfitted with the LED bulbs. And when the city refurbishes a display, all of the incandescent bulbs are removed and replaced with LED bulbs. Nealer said nine displays, including the Waving Santa, Japanese Garden and Peace on Earth, have had their bulbs replaced since 2008. The Celebration in Lights is becoming more "green."
