Recently, Universal Display Corporation from Ewing, New Jersey, has presented the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) Optics + Photonics Conference held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA from August 21 - 25, 2011. The company introduced advances in the companys white OLED lighting technology and showcased a potential application using white OLED lighting panels.
DOE Solid State Lighting program titled“High Efficacy Integrated Under-Cabinet Phosphorescent OLED Lighting Systems”in partly funded the development of the OLED prototype.
According to a paper titled High Performance Phosphorescent White Stacked OLEDs for Solid State Lighting, reported by Dr. Vadim Adamovich, Research Team Leader at Universal Display, the companys 15 x 15 cm2 warm white PHOLED panel, using a stacked OLED (SOLED) architecture, exceeds the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) commercial panel target of 10,000 hours (at an initial luminance of 3,000 candelas per square meter (cd/m2)) by more than 20%.
This new technology marks a new milestone that white phosphorescent OLEDs have achieved the performance targets required for initial commercial.
