Momentive Cooperates with Lee&Lee to Develop LED Lens for Flat-panel, LCD TVs

Momentive Performance Materials has developed a partnership with Lee&Lee Hi-Tech Co., a manufacturer specializing in liquid silicone rubber (LSR) injection molding, to utilize Momentive’s Silopren* LSR 7000 Series to designed LED lens parts for flat-panel, LCD TVs.

LSR 7000 is a family of highly LSRs, which is capable of achieving highly complex optical components that surpass those made with traditional thermoplastic materials or glass.

The combination of superior optical properties with the processing and productivity advantages of an addition-cured, platinum-catalyzed LSR makes the LSR 7000 series an excellent candidate to consider for applications requiring enhanced optical transparency.

Because of the high temperature stability of silicone elastomers, the LSR 7000 series may be considered for applications where enhanced optical transparency is needed and potential stress cracking of thermoplastics is of concern.

According to Lee Yong-Kwon, President of Lee&Lee, they were pleased with the cooperation, and thought Momentive had allowed them to establish an optimized process for producing more than 100 million lens units per month for LED-LCD backlight units.

Holger Albrecht, Global Marketing Director, Consumer at Momentive also showed his positive attitude on this cooperation,“We are excited about working with Lee&Lee to enhance the overall performance of LCD TVs that use an LED backlight instead of a conventional fluorescent one and to be a part of this new trend in flat-panel technology.”
