The City of Toronto Gives away LED Lights to Celebrate Energy-conscious Christmas

To celebrate an energy-conscious Christmas, St. Lawrence, the city of Toronto is offering one free set of frugal LED lights to exchange two sets of incandescent lights on Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to a press release from Jorge Carvalho, supervisor of St. Lawrence Market complex, they hope 2010 will be a record-breaking year for this great event and encourage all residents to participate and help support a greener community.

The City gave away more than 11,000 strings of LED ligts in 2009, while collecting and disposing of twice that number in old-style incandescent lights. It estimates two megawatts of power would be saved as a result of last year's exchange.
