DNP Develops "Shining & Speaking Poster" with OLED Panel

Dai Nippon Printing Co Ltd (DNP) of Japan has developed a "Shining & Speaking Poster" by combining an OLED panel, an inorganic EL panel and a panel-like speaker.

The OLED panel displays textual information. And the inorganic EL panel is used as a backlight source to emit light from behind a color-printed film, giving animation-like effects to the image on the poster.

The OLED panel is made with a polymer OLED material. OLED devices are formed on a glass substrate by using gravure printing technology. Compared with the evaporation method, it is possible to make larger, lower-cost panels in a shorter production time, DNP said.

The OLED panel measures 32 x 192mm. The drive voltage and the luminance are 12V and 100cd/m2, respectively. DNP is planning to form OLED devices on a plastic substrate for the future.
