LED Streetlights To Light up Major Cities in India

Ludhiana, the city of India, will be the first city of the state to have LED streetlights. Energy saving companies (ESCOs) has invited tenders to light up major cities with LEDs, starting from Ludhiana and then Bathinda.
 
Under the ESCOs mode, the firms set up the project and recover costs from the energy saved, which is usually 50 to 60 per cent.
 
According to Sanjay Bhardwaj, president of a Bangalore-based company, GreenOLite Technologies Pvt Ltd, they are planning to bid for the Ludhiana project. And he claimed that this would be one-of-a-kind project in Asia-Pacific.

In addition, 117 LED solar lights would be put up in Majitha town, a first in Punjab. Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) CEO T P S Sidhu said this would be a demonstration project, and the model would be replicated later in the rest of the state.
