Cree Lights up Super Bowl

News Source:

The Super Bowl XLIX to kick off at University of Phonex Stadium this Sunday will be putting on a show in a different light, according to a News and Observer report.

The 312 Ephesus Lighting LED fixtures deployed at the stadium consist of 44,928 Cree LEDs.

Replacing traditional metal halide fixtures, the new LED lights are 75% more energy efficient, and consume 310,000 watts of energy compared to the 1.24 million watts, said Cree.

Higher power LED lights offer better illumination, and more than halved LED fixture usage from the previous 780 luminaires to 312, said Mike Watson, Cree vice president of product strategy.

The stadium is one of the latest sports arena to feature LED lights, others include Raleigh’s PNC Arena, one of the first National Hockey League venues to upgrade to LEDs, said Watson.
