The world's first energy saving full LED headlamp has just won its developers a "red dot" award. Developed by Automotive Lighting Reutlingen for the Audi R8, the lamp includes 24 closely spaced white LEDs with a colour temperature of about 6000 deg K, close to the quality of daylight. The LEDs are used to realise all the lighting functions: low beam, high beam, turn signal, daytime running light and position light.

ITC to hear complaint about LED / LD patent infringements

The U.S. International Trade Commission has agreed to hear a case filed by a former Columbia University professor with a 50-year engineering career, Gertrude Neumark Rothschild, who has accused 34 companies including Nokia, Sony, Motorola, and Samsung of infringing her patents for LEDs and laser diodes. The Emeritus Professor seeks to block the importation into the U.S. of a wide array of consumer electronics products manufactured by the companies that she claims infringe her patent.

CPT reportedly to supply LED notebook panels to Dell and HP

According to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) reportedly has seen its LED notebook panels enter the supply chains of Dell and Hewlett Packard (HP).CPT declined to comment, citing client confidentiality, the paper said. But the maker said it had been in talks with clients over the supply of LED notebook panels, which were now being validated, the paper added.
