Visual Photonics Epitaxy Co. Ltd. (VPEC) of Taiwan has ordered AIXTRON AG eight 2600G3 IC MOCVD tools. In the fourth quarter 2009 VPEC placed its order for multiple additional epitaxial growth reactors making it the single largest purchase of its kind for the company this year. The systems will be commissioned at the company’s modern facility in Ping-Jen City, Taoyuan, Taiwan during the second and third quarters of 2010.

NNCrystal US Corporation will soon be supplying quantum dot to Acuity Brands Lighting for Acuity's LED lighting products.

To meet positive market demand in the mid to long term, Sharp Corporation of Japan has decided to start mass production of blue LED chips at its Fukuyama Plant in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan within 2010, as well and to expand materials procurement. This will boost Sharp's production capacity of blue LED chips to approximately five billion units a year in fiscal 2011.

Osram Sylvania has introduced a general-purpose LED light designed to replace screw-in incandescent, halogen, or compact fluorescent bulbs. The company said that it is working on a 75-watt replacement which is an LED.

Samsung Group of Seoul Korea has planed to invest $20.6 billion in technologies including solar cells, rechargeable cells for hybrid electric vehicles, LED technologies, biopharmaceuticals and medical devices. California based start-up company Porifera Inc., has ordered one Black Magic CNT system from AIXTRON AG. Successfully installed by the local AIXTRON support team at Porifera’s state-of-the-art facility in Hayward, CA, USA, the system enabled the first CNT material to be grown within less than a week.
