The South Korean tech giant said theaters with the Onyx solutions will be able to provide extremely high contrast, vivid content and high dynamic range (HDR) images that can expand the boundaries of existing systems and add another level of immersive experience.
Samsung Electronics showcased the Oynx brand at CinemaCon 2018, which opened for a three-day run in Las Vegas on April 24.
Samsung said theaters with Onyx screens will also be installed with audio systems by JBL, a brand under Harman International Industries, an affiliate of Samsung.
"By aligning brilliant, uniform color presentation with LED picture quality and crystal clear audio, the Samsung Onyx screen invites movie enthusiasts into the most immersive and memorable viewing arena available and repositions the theater as an entertainment haven," the company said.
"We are thrilled to deliver a new and exciting theater experience to operators, managers and consumers around the world, and we look forward to working further with leading decision-makers in the movie industry to usher in the next generation of cinema," it added.
Samsung has been tapping deeper into the cinema LED screen industry since last year, opening digital cinemas in South Korea. It has also joined forces with theaters in Thailand, Switzerland and China to supply its cinema solution.
The company said it is also rolling out joint research with different global partners. Samsung is currently carrying out a project to create Onyx-optimized content with Arnold & Richter Cine Technik (ARRI), a Munich-based camera and lighting systems provider.
