The next generation display technology Micro LED draws lots of attention, but Micro LED will take time to reach the mass production (MP) phase. Before that happens, mini LED with lower technical barrier will enter its MP phase first. Sources said, panel makers and LED die manufacturers already started their collaboration. Initially, mini LED will be used for two major categories: signage and TV panel backlight source. On 30th September 2017, Qingdao Jason Electric Ltd Co., one of major UV-C LEDs manufacture in the world, announced that they have successfully demonstrated 1000mW class high output power 275nm UV-C LEDs lamp. This research achievement has been attributed to their recent years’ progress on the production of 10mW UV-C LEDs with 10000hrs lifetime, and 100mW 6868 size packaged high power module for the flow water disinfection unit. The 1000mW lamp is made of total 9 6868 packaged LEDs connected by 3x3 array, as shown in figure 1.

An affiliate of New Water Capital L.P., a Boca Raton-based private equity firm focused on lower-middle market companies, announced it has made an investment in leading Tier 1 OEM transportation LED lighting designer, manufacturer and supplier Myotek. Specializing in automotive forward lighting, Myotek is a supplier of fog lamps for several OEM automakers and other vehicle manufacturers. Based in Irvine, California, the company has sales and service locations in Detroit, Michigan; Stateline, Nevada; Dallas, Texas; Houston, Texas; Lockport, Illinois; and Fishers, Indiana, and manufacturing facilities located in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Guangdong, China.

Taiwan-based LED chip manufacturer Tyntek Corporation expects positive outlook of sensors, so it plans to invest NTD 1.2~1.3 billion to build a new factory. The new plant is expected to enter mass production phase in second quarter of 2018. The design capacity of the first period is estimated to be 30,000 6-inch wafers per month.

Prices of LED lightbulbs remained on the downtrend in September, reports LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. Compared with the prior month, the global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt equivalent LED light bulbs fell by 2.1% to US$6.3, while the global ASP of the 60-watt equivalent products also dropped by 2.3% to US$7.5.   “Prices of LED light bulbs continued to fall in the U.S., the U.K. and Japan this September,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu.
