Recovering Demands to Spur Chinese LED Package Market Expansion by 5% YOY, said LEDinside

The scale of China’s LED package industry grew just 2% annually to US$8.8 billion in 2015, according to the 2016 Chinese LED Chip and Package Industry Report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. Nichia is very focused on new patent suits, and filed not one but four new suits. The patent suits, include those involving U.S. LED bulb distributors Feit Electric, Meridian, Lowe’s and L G Supplier (not LG Supplier). These three suits are centered around the 250 patent, which involves resin and LED chip leadframe structures. The last suit targeting B&Q self-branded LED bulbs mostly has to do with YAG patents, and unlike the first three is clamping down on home improvement company’s branded bulbs.

Osram Sets New Records with its New Phaser

Having further developed its successful Phaser 3000, Osram has added the Phaser 500 to its portfolio and is continuing to develop this laser-excited phosphor technology which was first introduced in 2012. The upgraded phaser with a record luminance of 3700 cd/mm² and smaller size compared to the predecessor version can be used in optical fibers with a diameter of less than one millimeter. Phaser 500 is therefore ideal for endoscopy, boroscopy and measurement applications that require a particularly high luminance. Holger Laabs, Product Marketing Medical and Industrial SSL at Osram summed up the benefits of the new product as follows: “In further developing the phaser we have achieved a considerable improvement in performance and at the same time made operating the phaser easier for the user”.
