Polish sapphire crystal growth furnace manufacturer, Juropol, plans to maintain sale targets of 70 sapphire crystal growth furnaces in 2014. The company already successfully sold 70 furnaces as of 2013, out of these 50 furnaces were preorders. Looking ahead Juropol aims to sell 200 sapphire crystal growth furnaces by 2015. 

Taiwanese LED chip manufacturer FOREPI announced their fiscal 2013 financial report. The company reported losses and was hit hard during the second half of 2013 when backlight demands dropped sharply. 

The LED industry performance has been much better than last year, demands have been pretty good for backlight, lighting and other components, said Everlight Chairman Robert Yeh. In addition, Everlight’s acquisition of German luminaire company WOFI in 2013 will allow Everlight revenue to break new records in 2014.

Lite-On Technology announced their fiscal 2013 financial performance today. The company’s fourth quarter 2013 consolidated sales reached NT$59.36 billion (US $1.9 billion), up 12 percent YoY and 4 percent QoQ, hitting a 10-quarter record high.

Taiwan LED package manufacturer Unity Opto released their fiscal 2013 financial report on March 26, 2014. Increased backlight demands drove up revenue and the company’s profitability grew 170 percent compared to the year before. 

Cree, Inc. records another significant LED milestone with the demonstration of 303 lumens per watt from a white, high-power LED. Reaching the landmark achievement much faster than previously believed possible, this result surpasses Cree’s previous R&D industry-best of 276 lumens per watt announced just over a year ago.

Their customers include many prominent and recognizable companies including over 100 hotels, 300 schools, and over 200 auto dealerships. The closing of the transaction is expected to occur on or before May 1(st) 2014.

Ford Motor Company is ensuring consumers continue to ‘think Ford first’ by offering industry first technology on the completely redesigned 2015 Ford F-150, part of Ford F-Series, America’s best-selling pickup truck. Plessey announced the launch of its smallest packaged MaGICTM LED (Manufactured on GaN-on-Si I/C) aimed at the surging wearable electronics market. The PLW138003 is a white LED in a 1005 SMT package designed specifically for the demand for ever smaller LED components producing highly collimated light. Bridgelux, a leading developer and manufacturer of LED lighting technologies and solutions, unveiled the Bridgelux Outdoor Lighting Module (OLM); a new line of LED sub-systems which integrates optics, environmental protection and the LED source for roadways, parking garages and other outdoor and industrial applications. OLM will allow manufacturers to rapidly expand their product lines while lowering costs.

Lextar Electronics Corp. announced its LED point-light candle lamp based on its significant advances made recently in light source design. This new candle lamp illuminates objects from a small pointed light source. It spreads outward in all directions as wide as nearly 360 degree, giving identically glowing effects to the starlight. The maturation of LED lighting has given mid-power LED products star status. Philips Lumileds, a major player in the international lighting scene, has shown its resolve in taking mid-power LEDs to another level. Besides releasing four new mid-power LED products in March, the company has introduced a whole new binning method into its new products. Philips Lumileds is providing mid-power LEDs with excellent lighting quality to differentiate itself from competitors in the mid-power product market, said Sean Zhou, Regional Marketing Director, Asia, Philips Lumileds.

Demand for CCFL has been hit hard by LCD TV backlight’s gradual conversion to LEDs. Japanese CCFL manufacturer Sanken Electric’s revenue will drop further this year as demand for CCFL dries up. The company therefore announced on March 25th after hours on the Japanese stock market, that they are ending their CCFL business.
