Toshiba Lighting to Set Up Manufacturing Base in India

News Source:

Toshiba Lighting has been the latest international manufacturer to show interest in the Indian market, according to a report from The Economic Times.

The Japanese manufacturer plans to scale up manufacturing and investing in R&D centers in its subsidiary GreenStar.

Toshiba aims for its LED business in India to reach US $40 million in the next five years, and grow at a rate of 40 percent YoY. That is about 10 times more than its current revenue base of US $4 million in India.

"Our primary manufacturing facilities are in China and Japan,” said Toshiba Lighting
& Technology Corporation President and CEO Yoichi Ibi. “We are also trying to see India as next manufacturing base, not only for the local market but also producing for global needs."

However, it will also depend on actual sales volume in India.
