To increase the viewing quality of displays, optical films and polarizers were added onto displays and many companies have demonstrated their advanced optical films and polarizers at Touch Taiwan 2018.
German chemical company BASF has developed an organic color conversion solution which can replace QDEF and QD-ink to improve the performance of displays. In comparison with QDEF, the organic color conversion solution has better stability and is cadmium-free and lead-free. With the technology, BASF has produced films of 50-300 micrometers for application on thin bezels. The color conversion technology can also be made into LED backlight modules or optical filters to increase the brightness of displays.
Taiwan-based BMC has also showcased its latest technologies for polarizers and films. Its Advance True Black Functional Film (ATBF) can enhance the picture quality of high resolution displays such as 8K TVs to improve contrast and saturation. The company emphasized that the products can be customized for special applications and fit up to 120-inch large size displays.
The dual-side projection film presented by the company was astounding as well. With its advanced technology, the film can display images on both sides simultaneously while maintaining the transparency.
