【Touch Taiwan 2019】Micro LED and Mini LED Applications Getting Ready for Mass Production

Micro LED and Mini LED technologies and applications created a sensation at Touch Taiwan 2019. Exhibitors from the supply chain presented key materials, components, equipment solutions as well as products applications following the Micro LED and Mini LED waves.

eLux and Epileds jointly demonstrate a 12-inch full color Micro LED automotive display. The display adopts Micro LED RGB chip sized 40-50µm by Epileds and active LTPS backplane drive solution, reaching 42 ppi and brightness over 1,000nits. The full color and high contrast display performance were well presented.

eLux used its proprietary fluidic assembly and chip bonding technology to transfer Micro LED chips on the planned location of each pixel on the TFT backplane, achieving a current transfer yield of 99.9%. Epileds, on the other hand, is capable of manufacturing Micro LED chips in a size of 12µm x 28µm in 2Q19. The current goal of Epileds is to achieve 6µm x10µm Micro LED with flip chip structure and vertical structured circled Micro LED with a diameter of 6µm.

Macroblock showcased holistic HDR solution at Touch Taiwan. Its driver ICs are featured with high channel and scanning type topology which allow 20-30 times local dimming zones to improve detailed parts of light and dark images. The HDR solution has been applied in TVs, automotive displays, VR, notebooks and monitors.

In addition, as automotive displays are moving towards to saturated color and high contrast following the market demands, Macroblock also debuted products meeting the requirements. Driver IC MBI5353Q has been verified by AEC Q100 for further applications in automotive applications.

SiliconCore also brought its P0.8mm LOTUS signage to Touch Taiwan. With a brightness of 2000 nits and the most power efficient solution, the display proved SiliconCore’s edge of LED technology for display applications. Compared to similar P1mm fine-pitch LED display with the same brightness, the display of SiliconCore saves energy consumption for more than 50%.

China’s Refond showcased their Mini LED and Micro LED products for the first time at Touch Taiwan. The company exhibited the latest product, a 118-inch full color 4K display with a pitch size of 0.68mm and P 0.49mm product that achieves a 85-inch full color 4K display and a 170-inch full color 8K display. These display products perform 6000:1 full color and NTSC:140.

Moreover, Refond also managed to control the display temperature at around 40 degree Celsius for high-end displays to be implemented with smart home applications, creating innovative experiences. The products are at the mass production phase.

Optoma under Coretronic exhibited its QUAD series LED display targeting the mainstream specification. Its product was honored with “Best of Show Award.” The product adopts the 4K LEDView embedded solution from Calibre, delivering excellent image processing function and enabling extremely thin LED screen which is easy to assemble.
