Nichia has announced that WOFI (Leuchten Wortmann & Filz), Everlight’s German subsidiary has withdrawn its appeal against the judgment of the Düsseldorf District Court concerning the YAG patent EP 936 682 (DE 697 02 929) of Nichia.

In response to Nichia’s announcement of the final result of the patent lawsuit in Germany, Everlight reported that Nichia’s patent in Europe has expired in 2017 and that the result does not affect Everlight’s current products.

The patent lawsuit between Japanese LED producer Nichia and Taiwanese LED manufacturer Everlight in Germany has finalized on October 1, 2018.

Everlight Electronics, a leading player in the global LED and optoelectronics industry, will attend CEATEC (2018/10/16-10/19) in Japan to demonstrate full product series, extending to automotive interior/exterior, portable electronic device, household appliances, industry, lighting, gaming and signage. Taiwanese LED companies have registered their revenue for September and most of them posted an on-year decrease. 

Taiwanese LED package company Everlight and Japanese LED producer Nichia have continued their dispute regarding the patent of YAG. On October 1st 2018, the Supreme Court of the United State has confirmed the invalidity of Nichia’s assertions about its YAG patents.

With the low profit of LED general lighting and the escalating uncertainty of the LED industry due to the trade war, worldwide LED manufacturers are facing unprecedented challenges and have taken different actions to cope with the situation. Some decided to divert their LED lighting business while others are changing their business focal point. However, LEDinside believes that there are plenty of opportunities for LED lighting technology despite the difficult circumstance of the current LED lighting industry.

Seoul Semiconductor has announced that three of its former employees were charged for divulgence of the company’s LED technology. The police in South Korea have investigated the case and are expected to detain the three individuals. 

LED packaging company Everlight has announced revenue of NT$2.21 billion (US$ 71.69 million) for August, up by 9.26% MoM and down by 5.83% YoY. 

With judgment dated July 19, 2018 (docket number 2 Ni 55/16 (EP)), the German Federal Patent Court fully confirmed the validity of the German part of Nichia’s YAG patent EP 936 682 (DE 697 02 929). As a consequence, the court completely rejected the nullity action of Everlight Electronics Europe, the German subsidiary of Taiwanese LED manufacturer Everlight. The judgment of the Federal Patent Court is not final and can be appealed.

Taiwanese LED packaging company Everlight has addressed its continuous portfolio amendment and its further operation direction in response to the company’s share price slide.

The lighting brand under Everlight Electronics has changed its name from Everlight Solid-State Lighting to Everlight Intelligence Technology. The gesture is to indicate the company’s transformation from a lighting producer to an integrated solution provider who connects lighting with IoT and other novel technologies to offer diverse intelligent solutions according to different needs.
