Sony Showcases 30-, 56-inch 4k OLED Monitors

Sony Corp showed 56- (3,840 x 2,160-pixel) and 30-inch (4,096 x 2,160-pixel) OLED monitors capable of displaying 4k2k video and targeted at broadcasting companies in Sony's booth at 2013 NAB Show, a trade show of broadcasting equipment, which runs from April 6 to 11, 2013, in Las Vegas, the US.

Though the company has not yet decided the prices of the monitors, it aims to release the 30-inch monitor within 2014.

OLED panels are expected to be used as master monitors for broadcasting because of their high black color reproducibility and high response speed for video. Sony has already released 17- to 25-inch OLED monitors for business use. But they support only full HD resolution.

Considering that 30-inch or larger monitors will be required for making 4k2k video, Sony is now developing 30- and 56-inch 4k2k monitors. The company has not disclosed the drive method used for the exhibited OLED panels.
