Chinese TV manufacturer Skyworth is vying to sell 200,000 of its new OLED HDR TV panels by 2016, reported 4K.
The majority of the TVs will offer a package of HDR support technology, and the 4K ultra HD display resolution at 3840 x 2160 pixels will be equipped with OLED display panels from LG Display. The OLED screens will match be on par with LG’s latest HDR capable OLED models.
The report noted LG Display’s partnership with the Chinese vendor is aimed at meeting their own OLED display sales goals for 2016, as the company is aiming to push down OLED 4K TV prices in 2016. By entering mass production, the increased popularity and appeal of OLED TV sales.
Industry experts have also pointed out LG is planning to expand their OLED TV lineup this year, with heavy OLED TV advertising scheduled for the 2016 Super Bowl.
LG has sold about 450,000 to 500,000 OLED TV panels throughout 2015, and the sales incorporates its OLED 4K UHD TVs and OLED panels sold to consumers, retailers, and other TV manufacturers. The company projects in 2016 to bring sales of more than 1 million panels.
The report noted though, LG’s OLED panel revenue performance in 2015 fell short of its projected 600,000 panels for the year, and 1 million panels for 2016 sales was also lowered from their initial predictions of 1.5 million OLED panels for all TV types in 2016.
