IKEA and Little Sun have announced two new solar LED lamps in the jointly developed SAMMANLÄNKAD range. The table and ceiling lamps come with a detachable half-sphere light source, which can be recharged via integrated solar panels or USB. The USB ports can also charge small gadgets on the go.
IKEA has collaborated with Little Sun to develop new products for the SAMMANLÄNKAD lamp range. Little Sun is a nonprofit organization which produces affordable alternative energy solutions. Two LED lamps are available in the lineup, originally launched in 2019, aiming to increase awareness of the need for clean energy options.
The lamp’s design is inspired by the Sun and the Earth’s orbit, with a 23.5-degree angled central light source fixed on a mirrored surface and surrounded by metal rings. You can choose a table lamp with a base stand or a ceiling-mounted pendant-style version. The detachable inner solar-powered light is a half sphere with a yellow strap allowing you to easily carry or hang the smaller device.
The light source is powered by solar panels and rechargeable batteries, with the option to charge the gadget via USB-A and USB-C ports on a cloudier day. These ports can also be used as outputs to charge small mobile devices such as a smartphone. The designers note that this solar gadget has a relatively high light output thanks to the size of the LED light source, though the exact brightness has not been provided. The IKEA SAMMANLÄNKAD LED solar-powered lamps will launch in specific markets in April. Further details, including product prices, are yet to be revealed.
