Orca Green Marine Celebrates 7 Years in Business with New LED Light EcoPacs

Orca Green Marine Technology Corporation (OGM) celebrated its seven years in business by emphasizing its commitment to the environment and the marine industry through its "Orca Green LED Lite EcoPac" initiative.

OGM was founded in Austin, Texas, in November 2002 with the mission to bring environmentally friendly, energy efficient technologies to the marine industry. "We initially looked at fuel cell technology and LEDs," said Meghan Matthews, OGM's cofounder and CEO, "but our research found that LED technology was developing much more rapidly than fuel cells, which has several obstacles yet to overcome. LEDs were advancing very quickly and in 2002, the reds, greens and whites were already primed for specific niche applications such as marine navigation lighting.

To encourage environmental awareness, OGM will migrate its plastic clamshell packaging to a more eco-friendly reusable packaging, aptly named Orca Green LED Lite EcoPacs. "Our first introduction of the EcoPac packaging concept was to bundle our set of LED Navigation lights in a canvas LLBean BoatTote and give a percentage of the sale to non-profit organizations dedicated to preserving our waterways," says Matthews. "But we decided to go one step further and make this commitment to reusable packaging a part of all our products going forward."

Orca Green will continue to examine its supply chain to reduce waste, investing in eco-friendly packaging, bundling and using recycled or reusable containers and other energy conservation products to offer a full solution to its growing number of customers. In the coming weeks, OGM will announce several new product offerings, each packaged in a reusable container ranging from lunch bags to stainless steel containers or coolers, all with an emphasis on "boater-reusable."
