LED Hula Hoops Create 3D Light Paintings at Berlin Festival

Since being first introduced in the 1950’s, hula hoops have remained popular among both children and adults. Berlin even has a festival dedicated to the hula hoop. Started in 2005, this June will mark Hoopla! Berlin’s third annual festival.

Promoting the festival, a recent flash mob descended on Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz twirling and spinning LED hula hoops around their waists, necks, and wrists creating 3D spiral like designs.

“When you start to mix multiple hoops, light, and choreography," said Rebecca Halls, the festival founder, "you can create complex geometric patterns, sequences and loops. There are endless possibilities.”

The upcoming Hoopla! Berlin offers Hoop Tech workshops for visiters as well as master classes and performance showcases. There will also be a hoop dance competition called So You Think You Can Hoop.
