Saginaw Castle Museum to be Bathed in LED Lights

The Castle Museum of Saginaw County History will become the 14th building illuminated at night as a part of the Saginaw Sees the Lights Project. The Castle Museum, 500 Federal, will be the first time LED lights will be installed. They will run on sensors that will operate from dusk to dawn.

To date, 13 downtown buildings have been illuminated. St John’s Episcopal was the first building to get the lighting. Since then buildings on both sides of the Saginaw River have received the luminous honor. They are St. Mary Cathedral of the Assumption, First Presbyterian Church, Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Andrews Catholic Church, the Saginaw Water Treatment Plant tower, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the former First Baptist Church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, First Congregation Church, Michigan Avenue Baptist Church and the former Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church.

The yearly projects cost about $5,000, but the price increased this year because of the switch to LED lights. Donations are taken, but the majority of the money came from the Castle Museum, a fund set up for the project, and the Frank N. Andersen Foundation. A lighting ceremony will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
