Strawberry Fields Forever Thanks to LED Technology

Strawberry lovers will rejoice as strawberry fields can now yield fruit all season round. Starting this year, strawberry fields will be bursting with fruit all four seasons in Britain with the use of LED lighting technology.

Experiments by Stockbridge Technology Center in North Yorkshire show that strawberries can be ripened with much less electricity than is needed by greenhouses that use artificial light, according to The Times.

The LED lights can mimic the summer sun to allow strawberry bushes to yield fruit even in the dead of winter. This is expected to increase yield to 30 tons of extra fruit in a year.

British strawberries will show up on shelves by next Christmas.
