Japan Seiko Instruments Announced New Temperature Sensor IC Optimized for LED Lighting

Japan Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) has introduced the S-5855A Series, a PWM output temperature sensor IC for LED lighting designs. The new product begins to decrease the duty ratio of PWM signal output when the temperature exceeds the specified value, thus enables LED lighting circuits to avoid temperatures increasing above design limits, improving safety and efficiency while reducing total design cost. City of Novato Makes a Streetlight Test

It’s said that city of Novato is in the process of conducting a streetlight test to get public feedback in its selection of energy-efficient fixtures. Four LED fixtures have been installed between Rowland Boulevard and Adele Drive, and four induction fixtures were installed between Arthur Drive and Yukon Way. All lights being considered would reduce monthly energy costs by about 40 percent and reduce routine maintenance costs three to four times that of the current fixtures.

IXYS Corporation Released New 6-Channel New LED Driver

IXYS Corporation has released an innovative inductor-based 6-channel White LED driver LDS8763, which can drive up to 72 WLEDs in six strings with up to 12 LEDs per string. The LDS8763 is delivered with factory programmed LED current at 20, 25, or 30 mA per string and 1.5% channel-to-channel current matching. Internal PWM pulse generator with duty cycle regulated by external DC voltage applied to the PWM pin adjusts its LED brightness.

Bisons Will Install Largest LED Video Screen in Minor League Baseball

The Buffalo Bisons are going to install the largest high definition LED video screen in all of minor league baseball. Made by Daktronics, Inc., the new video board will measure 80’ x 33’ and will come with a price tag of $2.5 million. It will be completed before the start of the 2011 season. The new green lighting system will cost about $750,00- upfront. It's estimated that the new lights will save the city about $565,000 in utility costs over the next 25 years.

118 LED Streetlights to be Installed in City of Dover

Led by the city of Dover Electric Department, a total of 118 LED streetlights are being installed in Division Street in Dover. The savings should be approximately $3,000 per fixture with a potential savings of more than $350,000 over the next 20 years, according to Ron Lunt, director of Public Utilities. It’s reported that President Obama’s Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allocated $3.2 billion to the Department of Energy to fund energy efficiency and conservation initiatives.

USA GEAR Brought in 50 Solar LED Lights to Bomba, Belize

Lately, the village of Bomba in Belize has brought in 50 solar LED lights with help from the Austin, TX-based U.S. organization Grid Earth (GEAR), targeting to eliminate the use of kerosene in homes and to aid in the economic growth of their village partners. The lights have small solar panels that can be installed on the roof or sit in the window that will charge a par 45 size LED lamp. The village can sustain these lamps from the resulted savings of up to 75% over the cost of kerosene.

According to Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre, launched last month, the lighted Capitol building will be maintained by the company free of charge.
