According to CRS Electronics, its LED MR16 lamps currently have become the only LED MR16 approved for a rebate under two US undisclosed major electric utilities’   incentive program offered to their commercial customers.   It’s said that the two major utilities service a combined area of more than 100,000 sq. mi. in 40 counties within the continental United States. Therefore, it’s an opportunity for CRS to capitalize on these rebate programs.

The Haxton Way Trail, for the Lummi Nation Indian Reservation, Lummi Nation, Washington has selected Carmanah Technologies Corporation’s 70 EverGEN 1710 solar LED lighting systems to improve the safety of pedestrians that use the popular three-mile long pathway, which stretches across environmentally-sensitive wetlands. The Haxton Way Trail follows a network of protected wetlands and wetland complexes, which account for almost half of the Lummi Reservation's total upland area.

Soitec and Sumitomo Electric Industries (SEI) has joined force to develop engineered gallium nitride (GaN) substrates. The cooperation will combine with Sumitomo Electric's sophisticated GaN wafer manufacturing technology and Soitec's unique Smart Cut layer transfer technology.The engineered substrates retain the original, high crystalline quality of Sumitomo Electric's GaN wafer at a lower cost.

2010 Sales Have Pushed Past $20 Million for MSi a Leader in the Manufacture of Energy Efficient LED Lighting. Companies including Macy’s, Abercrombie & Fitch,9 West and Thomasville Furniture are Switching From Hot Halogen Lighting to the Cool Burning Energy Efficient MSi LED Lights.  

Showa Denko K.K. (SDK) has published their 2011-2015 business plan. Their R&D strategy includes four priority items, one of them being OLED Lighting. Their plan is to produce 80lm/W 40,000 hours white OLEDs in 2015. They say that the cost will be ¥4 per lm - which means $3.8 for the 80lm/W device - but they do not specify the size (area) of those OLEDs.

FZTECH Inc. releases the availability of T8 Light Emitting Diode (LED) Switching Dimmable light tubes – the LED T8 tubes come in ten models. The three sizes of tube vary in length from 580mm to 1200mm. The LED T8 Tubes are designed to replace the equivalent Fluorescent Lamps (FL) available in markets today. Using lower wattage compared with the original product (Input varies between 7W on the low brightness model to 22W on the high brightness model).

LEDnovation has launched the industry’s highest efficiency and first high-quality 100 lumen/watt, warm white, dimmable A19-type replacement lamp, and it is starting production and shipping in mid December 2010.

Mitsubishi Electric  has installed an 800-inch Diamond Vision large-scale display system at Hiratsuka Stadium in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, to display textual and graphic information as well as live videos and slow-motion replays. It’s considered as the first large-scale LED screen installed at Hiratsuka City's multi-use athletics stadium, also the home stadium of J. League Division 1 soccer club Shonan Bellmare.

GE has installed its award-winning Evolve™ LED roadway street lights in the city of East Cleveland to replace 45 standard-technology municipal street lights on  a one-mile block along Noble Road serves as a demonstration to other municipalities of the benefits of a higher-efficiency lighting system. It’s estimated that the new GE Evolve LED street lights will reduce the city’s energy use by 28 million watts a year.

Cooper Lighting and Safety has provided 65 RXD1 LED downlights to the Dominion Centre, a former theatre that is now used as a place of worship, in Wood Green, London. The 1930-built cinema and theatre building retains 12 large 400W metal-halide house lights recessed into the ornate plasterwork. The officials of the centre have decided to supplement these main house lights by additional luminaires during a recent renovation scheme.

Food warehouses save cost and energy with Carbon Trust funded LED lighting

The Hy-Vee Food Store on Mount Vernon Road recently has participated in a collaborative pilot program to replace 12 metal halide parking lot lights with LED lamps, saving more than 40,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. As part of a collaborative pilot program, Hy-Vee’s LED lighting retrofit cooperated with the following companies: Interstate Power and Light Company, an Alliant Energy company; Van Meter Industrial; and the Iowa Energy Center.  

The manufacturer of image analysis solutions, Syngene, has introduced its new plug and play LED lighting modules, which fit all new G:BOX and Dyversity imagers. These modules make it easy and cost-effective to enable these imagers to detect single or multiple fluorescent DNA and proteins.

Mitsubishi Electric has introduced a new color TFT LCD module in a 960×540 quarter high definition (QHD) format, which suits to video monitors for broadcasting purposes as it enables easy conversion from full HD resolution.

TYNTEK Applied Product Division introduced a very bright 3W single LED headlamp. It achieves 40Lux from 10meters away. The lamp meets German bicycle headlamp regulation and it is K-Mark certified. TYNTEK's Optical Center designed the reflector which creates relatively sharp horizontal cutoff line. The light pattern is cut off to the top of the beam to keep focused light out of the eyes of oncoming drivers. To be simple, beam is brightest at the top getting progressively dimmer towards the bottom just like a high quality automobile low beam.

Osram Sylvania has announced the launch of the good selling A-Line Ultra 12-watt LED bulb, available at Lowe’s Home Improvement. The A-Line 12-watt LED bulb features 80 percent less energy than its incandescent ancestor and lasts 25 times longer. Like Osram Sylvania’s other LED bulbs–the MR16, PAR20, PAR30, PAR38 and G25 types–the Ultra A-Line is dimmable and mercury-free.

A UK home lighting company, Harrison Lighting , has recently introduced the new LED flood light range to their online store and showrooms. These LED outdoor flood lights are energy efficient, and the XQ1008, XQ1010 feature adjustable timers, light sensitivities and detection area.  

Osram Opto Semiconductors designed an LED chip used in the Oslux LED, to offer smaller pocket projectors, vehicle headlights, and cell phone camera flashes.

Japan Hibino Corp has introduced two kinds of 3D LED displays, one is the "ChromaLED 3D4" with the industry's narrowest pitch of 4mm pixels, and the other is the "ChromaLED 3D6" with 6mm pixel pitch.   

As the 16th Asian Games is hosting in Guangzhou, the world’s highest stand-alone TV tower, the Canton Tower becomes an important focal point. Philips was contracted with the Guangzhou city government to provide the lighting for the 600 meter-high tower - known locally as ‘the Slender Waist’ TV tower.

According to a research from the Academia Sinica and the National Cheng Kung University in Taipei and Tainan, glowing bio-LED trees could replace street lamps. Researchers have implanted glowing , sea urchin shaped gold nanoparticles, known as bio LEDs, inside the leaves of a plant. The new nanoparticles could replace the electricity powered street light with biologically powered light that removes CO2 from the atmosphere 24 hours a day.

AkzoNobel will begin mass production of Trimethyl Gallium (TMG), a key LED precursor material to satisfy the global demand for its High Purity MetalOrganics product range. During this past June 2010, it has successfully doubled its production capacity for TMG at its world-scale production facilities in LaPorte, Texas, USA.

(SETI), has demonstrated deep ultraviolet AlInGaN LEDs set to rocket. SETI's UVTOP LEDs are a series of UV and deep-UV LEDs with peak emission wavelengths in the range of 240 - 400 nm. They incorporate AlInGaN deposited by a proprietary Migration Enhanced MOCVD process.
