The lamp is a direct replacement for halogen MR16 down lighting and track lighting applications. It’s reported that "Megatex", a Bulgarian LED and LCD technologies company has developed a screen combining LED technology with renewable solar energy, which can be mounted at places without electric power supply. The panel has a 5 KW power to charge the screen. The new screen will be used outdoors and can be installed on stadiums; it can be used for concerts or as a billboard.

Lately, Samsung Electronics has showcased a new model of its edge-type LED-backlit LCD panel at CES Unveiled, a press conference prior to the 2011 International CES. According to a Samsung staffer, different with the case where LED backlight units are set on all the four sides ,they placed backlight units on the right and left sides of the panel so that the power consumption of the panel can be reduced.  

A power control IC company iWatt, Inc., has launched two primary-side-regulated, leading- and trailing-edge-dimmable, AC/DC Digital PWM Controllers which are available in 100V/230VAC offline LED lighting applications. Both LED driver ICs are pin compatible with the previous-generation iW3610, but offer wider dimmer compatibility and introduce new hot-plug support, where the user can swap the LED engine without recycling the input power for the LED driver.

Recently, Taiwan LED manufacturer Aeon Lighting Technology (ALT) has successfully acquired the LED Streetlight CNS Mark, making it Taiwan’s first LED-streetlight manufacturer to pass inspections of the world’s first industry standard dedicated to LED streetlights. In the meantime, it also released its latest versions of its LED lamps, such as Orion-coded T8 light tubes, chandelier bulbs, SO2-coded streetlights, BR lamps, and GX5.3 MR16 lamps in the fourth quarter 2010.

Truck-Lite has launched its new LED Snow Plow Kit, which is capable of improving overall visibility for plowing vehicles and oncoming traffic, improving safety all around. Truck-Lite's work with the U.S. military developing the first LED headlamp led to a commercially suitable, DOT-compliant lamp. That led to creating a lighting system for snowplows that offered better visibility and added safety.

Led by the city of Dover Electric Department, a total of 118 LED streetlights are being installed in Division Street in Dover. The savings should be approximately $3,000 per fixture with a potential savings of more than $350,000 over the next 20 years, according to Ron Lunt, director of Public Utilities. It’s reported that President Obama’s Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 allocated $3.2 billion to the Department of Energy to fund energy efficiency and conservation initiatives.

Lately, the village of Bomba in Belize has brought in 50 solar LED lights with help from the Austin, TX-based U.S. organization Grid Earth (GEAR), targeting to eliminate the use of kerosene in homes and to aid in the economic growth of their village partners. The lights have small solar panels that can be installed on the roof or sit in the window that will charge a par 45 size LED lamp. The village can sustain these lamps from the resulted savings of up to 75% over the cost of kerosene.

Cree has named multi-channel electronics distributor Newark, part of global Premier Farnell, as its exclusive distributor in North America for the latest range of Cree LED modules.   The new Cree LMR4 modules are available in TrueWhite and EasyWhite technology options, which can provide a simple drop-in solution that uniquely integrates driver electronics, optics, and primary thermal management.  

It’s said that Luminus Devices has supported its SBT-16 LED pico-projection chipset for the power of Aiptek’s new PocketCinema V50 Projector, one of the world’s smallest projectors enabling instant projection anywhere for business presentations, photo sharing with family and friends and gaming.

There is a pair of gloves with inbuilt LED lights to prove just the thing for cyclists wanting to supplement their headlight, signal to drivers or change a tyre in the dark. The two single-bulb LEDs are mounted on a Velcro base that can be positioned at four points on the glove. The battery lasts for 14 hours.  

Sharp has showcased 70-inch Quattron-series LED TV to CES this year. Under Quad Pixel technology, Sharp added yellow to the red, green and blue color gamut. The LC-70LE732U is the largest in the series thus far, outdoing the previous 60-inch flagship.

It’s reported that Philips Lighting has brightened the Cebu Capitol building with LED bulbs. According to Provincial Engineer Eulogio Pelayre, launched last month, the lighted Capitol building will be maintained by the company free of charge. The LED bulbs allow the Capitol to save 70 percent in power bills. No maintenance or replacement of bulbs is needed for the next 15 years at least.

(Nasdaq: CREE) has further simplified indoor LED fixture design with its newly optimized XLamp® MX-6 LEDs, which feature higher flux options, new, longer lifetime estimates and higher CRI options. Cree has also completed LM-80 testing on MX-6 LEDs, which can enable quicker time to market for manufacturers designing ENERGY STAR®-rated fixtures.

Samsung Electronics has showed off more than 40 new LED models with screen sizes from 19-inches to 65-inches at the International Consumer Electronics Show. The new TVs offer dramatically enhanced picture quality in 2D, 3D, HD and streaming content, as well as richer connected entertainment options delivered through one of the most comprehensive offering of apps and connected devices. In addition, Samsung will also expand the number of 3D TV models available in 2011.

Based on the emergency carpet lighting on airplanes, Netherlands-based Lama Concept has created a RGB LED light embedded carpet. According to the designer, people can find their way by this Cell+Led lights. “The strings are put together randomly so a natural pattern will evolve together with a playful finishing of the edges. Another advantage of the carpet being made out of strings is that they can be replaced by new ones.”

The supplier of large-format LED display systems, Daktronics Inc. recently has contracted with Garden State Outdoor to install a high-contrast digital LED billboard at the end of the Atlantic City Expressway. The new 12 mm LED billboard advertises exclusively for Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. Casino and Hotel locations in Atlantic City, and measures approximately 16 feet by 60 feet.

Home decor and furniture company IKEA has stopped stocking or selling incandescent light bulbs in its US stores. This action comes ahead of federal legislation that would mandate more efficient light bulbs starting in 2012. The retailer began phasing out the sale of the light bulbs in August. The pullout also applies to IKEA stores in Canada. Stores in France and Australia started phasing out the incandescent bulbs last year. At present, IKEA's available lighting options include the compact fluorescent bulb, LED, halogen and solar-powered lamps.

It’s reported that City of Foley is thinking about updating some new light throughout the city by experimenting with LED technology. On Monday, Bravo Zulu, a technology company specializing in communications and monitoring technology have given a presentation focused on the benefits LED light technology could have for the city, and ways the technology could be implemented to the city council.

Toshiba is reported to start offering 40 types of LED tube lamps by March that it will market to offices and factories.   Toshiba will offer standard 40-watt lamps as well as 20-watt tubes. Besides, it plans to have 80 types on the market by June.

The Central Railway (CR) in Mumbai has planed to replace the remaining 1,700 signals on its suburban network and has sought approval from the Railway Board to help reduce costs and maintenance of signals and eliminates instances of signal failure. Each signal post usually consists of four colored lamps, one each of green and red and two amber ones.

Ural State University’s scientists have combined a LED and a computer fan to create a new lamp, which can work for 50 000 hours, expecting to provide more efficient than a general street light.
