Sony prototype 360-degree autostereoscopic display

Sony has developed a prototype 360-degree autostereoscopic display called RayModeler, allowing viewers to see full colour volumetric objects from 360-degree. And no special 3D glasses are needed to see the 3D images. It demonstrated this technology at the SIGGRAPH 2010 convention and the display uses special LED light sources showing 360 unique images to all directions in one-degree separations.

Kemerovo in Siberia is converting to street lighting with LEDs by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors on a broad scale. The city of 520,000 inhabitants on the Trans-Siberian Railway has installed 200 street luminaires made by LLC TD Focus, which are equipped with Golden DRAGON oval Plus LEDs. The city can therefore achieve significant savings in energy costs and CO2 emissions.

LEDs will replace iconic neon in National Aquarium of Baltimore

The National Aquarium in Baltimore, America, is replacing the iconic blue neon wave on the south side of its Pier 3 building and a fixture on the city skyline with LEDs, expected to cut the energy use associated with illuminating the wave by 70 percent. It's also part of a national trend in which neon lights of all kinds, from Boston's famous Citgo sign to lights in local shopping malls, are giving way to LED systems.

Marl's new 4.5W Citizen CL-L251 LED

Marl has created a new 4.5W Citizen CL-L251 LED, which delivers 290 lumens of light output at a colour temperature of 3000K with good colour rendering "Ra85", equivalent to a standard 20W MR16 halogen. The range is available with colour temperatures up to 5000K, delivering up to 425 lumens from 4.5W. Compared to 16 lumens per watt for a halogen light,The CL-L251 has a luminous efficiency of up to 106 lumens per watt. Because of the drive voltage of the CL-L251 is 9-10V, it can be packaged as a drop-in replacement for the standard halogen light.
