Acuity Brands has come out four white papers, which are comprise of four fundamental LED topics, such as  LED Binning, Photometric Measurement, Lumen Depreciation and Color Quality, to help educate the marketplace about LED lighting and technology and associated issues in lighting design.   "LED and Binning” relates to binning LEDs, color temperature, chromaticity and ANSI binning standards.  

Nexxus Lighting has to put off the laboratory of its first series of Array(TM) LED replacement lamps, because the product is under the review of the ENERGY STAR program.   Once the test is completed, Nexxus will submit its R30 product in both its flood and narrow flood configurations at 3000 deg Kelvin color temperature.

The first screen of its kind, the Diamond Vision OLED, measuring 8.8sqm (3.84 m (w) by 2.3 m (h)) with a depth of just 9.9cm, has been installed at the material Research Center recently opened by the chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany. The new technology is a pioneering step forward, using organic light emitting diodes (OLED) as a light source, which due to its structure and composition is fully scalable and can be arranged into flexible forms and shapes.

LG has released the Xnote A510 3D, which is considered as the "world's first" near full HD 3D laptop. The Xnote A510 is capable of converting 2D content into 3D. LG also includes a pair of clip-on 3D lenses for "regular glasses-wearers."

Crompton Lighting, a division of the Gerard Lighting Group in Australia, has announced a LUXEON-Based XL LED downlight with the assistance of Future Lighting Solutions . The fixtures consume 70% less energy and provide a much longer 50,000-hour lamp life than their 50W MR16 halogen counterparts.

ANC Sports Enterprises installed a new light emitting diode signage (LED) system at the Cintas Center, Xavier University’s multipurpose sports and entertainment arena. The signage system is highlighted by a center-hung scoreboard which features eight LED video displays and a 42’ long circular LED ribbon. The structure is nearly 18 feet tall and weighs approximately 14,700 pounds.

Diodes Incorporated has launched two 9-channel LED drivers with internal charge-pumps, which are suit for backlighting small-LCD screens, keypads and LED lights.   With three groups of 3-LED channels and its three independent PWM dimmable control inputs, the AL3158 provides a simple drive for RGB LEDs.   Meanwhile, the AL3159, with its versatile 3-wire logic decoding of LED current control, simplifies the driving of 9-LEDs for illuminating LCD screens and LED indicator control.  

Sony Gulf , the regional arm of consumer electronics giant Sony, has shown off its new 3D-enabled LED BRAVIA television series in the Middle East. The new sets comprise of the HX800, NX815/710 and LX900 models, comes in four collections of 40 inch, 46 inch, 55 inch and 60 inch sizes, and contains HD 3D and WiFi connectability.

National Semiconductor introduces the LM3492 LED driver, a member of National's PowerWise® energy-efficient product family, with dynamic headroom control, which drives current to two independently dimmable strings of LEDs.  

Waikato, New Zealand has played a national competition, which was part of the RightLight campaign to promote the purchasers of energy efficient light bulbs to enter the prize draw. Craig Benton, of St Andrews, Hamilton, who was a Waikato resident ,has won $10,000 energy efficiency home makeover by purchasing three different efficiency light bulbs in this competition. It's reported that the first part of his prize will be a home efficiency audit, which will identify a range of energy saving options for Mr Benton to spend his prize on.

An LED light system which was created by Lee Myung Su Design Lab, has been outfitted on a SEIL backpack to avoid traffic accident in night. The system works through a wireless controller that clips on to the handlebars. The rider can flick a switch to say they intend to turn and which way. The backpack also outputs a flashing stop sign when the bike stops, and displays a range of different shapes and messages as you ride.

Diodes Incorporated has designed the SBR1U400P1 super barrier rectifier to increase the efficiency of off-line LED drivers. This 1A, 400V rated part suits both bridge, with a 120VAC input, and buck stages of driver circuits. The rectifier's typical ultra-low forward voltage is less than 0.65V for a current of 1A at 125°C. It is provided in Diodes' own high performance PowerDI®123 package for best possible heat dissipation.

Austriamicrosystems has announced two collections of new LED driver ICs, the AS3695A -- a 16-channel white LED driver for direct lighting -- and the AS3695C -- a 16-channel white LED controller for edge lighting. With the new productions, Austriamicrosystems extends its portfolio of LED backlight unit drivers and controllers for the latest generation of LCD TVs.

Larson Electronics added a new four foot, four lamp explosion proof LED light, with UL 844 Class 1 and Class 2 ratings for hazardous locations. The 96 watt explosion proof LED light produces more light than the same configuration equipped with T5HO bulbs. While the EPL-48-4L-LED is available for pendant or surface mount, the EPLC-48-4L-LED is configured on a cart with four casters, protective wire guard and switch and cord.

State-of-the-art LED Illuminators define the next generation of backlit graphic illuminators for ceilings and walls in Healthcare applications

Sunovia Energy, manufacturer of LED lighting products, announced that DePaul University has installed its high-performance EvoLucia LED lights. The university replaced 210 W metal halide lights with 90 W EvoLucia LEDs in the Sheffield parking garage at Lincoln Park campus.  The LED lights consume less than 50% of the energy consumed by the metal halide lamps. The LED lamps will provide significant savings in terms of maintenance and energy use, and will offer enhanced visibility, uniform light distribution and security to the campus.

With the official opening of Oak Ridge National Laboratories ZEBRAlliance project, Seoul Semiconductor (CEO Mr. Chung Hoon Lee, www.seoulsemicon.com) demonstrated how LEDs can help illuminate and define a home’s living area using a fraction of the energy consumed by traditional incandescent and compact fluorescent light bulbs.

The Lighting Change is Anticipated to Save Chili’s $3.7 Million Per Year Brinker International, parent company of Chili’s Restaurants and Maggiano’s Restaurants, has recently installed Eco-story LED lighting (www.eco-story.com) as part of a re-lamp project in all of its corporate restaurants. The project, which involves installing 125,000 LED lamps in the interior and exterior of all 827 corporate restaurants, will be the largest U.S. roll-out of LED lamp technology to date.
