H/L ProLight Introduces 6W Venti 3535 Single Chip Package at 2014 Hong Kong Int’l Lighting Fair

Taiwan high power LED packaging house, ProLight Opto, have introduced Venti 3535 single chip package which can be driven up to 1.5A at 2014 Hong Kong Int’l Lighting Fair. Different to other LED packaging house’s preference to the flip chip technology, ProLight have developed its own high thermal dissipating eutectic technology, which allow standard LED chip to be able to drive to 1.5A and obtain highest lumen output.

Michael Hsing, who is the President of ProLight pointed out, even though most LED manufacturers in Taiwan favors flip chip technology, but currently the adoption in market is relatively slow. Although flip chip technology can reduce the die wiring process, but flip chip production is much more complicated hence resulting in low yield. Furthermore, the overall cost of a flip chip LED is a lot more expensive than the standard LEDs.

ProLight’s high thermal dissipating eutectic technology

The eutectic material that is commonly used is Au-Sn, the thermal conductivity is around 58W/mK, but ProLight have developed the high thermal dissipating eutectic material, which have thermal conductivity over 160W/mK. Furthermore, flip chip only allow 30% to 70% of the LED chip area for eutectic bonding, however, standard chip can use 100% of the chip area for eutectic bonding. This allows the Venti 3535 using high thermal dissipating eutectic technology, to have low thermal resistance and when it is performed under life test, the lumen depreciation follow similar trends as flip chip.

ProLight’s Unique Silicone Formula

ProLight’s Venti 3535 using special Silicone formula can eliminate the problem of silicone cracking when it is under extreme energy density within the package that leads to huge lumen depreciation. This is the reason why ProLight can offer its Venti 3535 series with drive current over 1.5A and a lot of other packaging house can only provide LEDs with maximum drive current of 1A even using flip chip.

ProLight’s Patented Phosphor coating Technology

Venti 3535 uses ProLight’s own patented phosphor coating technology, which can solve the uneven spread of light output from the LED chip. This allow ProLight’s Venti 3535 to have uniform light distribution, which can be comparable with 1st tier LED packaging provider. Moreover, the Venti 3535 can further demonstrate its outstanding light quality when used under 2nd optics in application such as directional lighting and wall washer.

President of Prolight, Michael, further pointed out the future of flip chip still looks promising but the technology is not mature enough to be adopted by the LED market. At current stage, standard LED chip have better lumen performance compare to flip chip. Furthermore, the Venti 3535 at high drive current actually have slightly better droop than the flip chip and the drive voltage is only slightly higher. If only consider the efficacy at the same lumen output, the Venti 3535 do have similar performance as the flip chip LEDs, but Venti 3535 actually poses the cost advantage. ProLight have also introduced 5W Grande 3535 series, which can be driven to 1.2A to allow customer more flexibility in LED choice.

ProLight have seen its revenue hitting historical highs for the past two years. In 2013 the annual growth in revenue is around 50% and this year the accumulated growth is over 80%. ProLight’s 3535 high power single chip package (6W at 1.5A and 5W at 1.2A products) will no doubt bring higher growth in revenue and profit.
