Rubicon Technology to Showcase Optical Sapphire at LASER World of PHOTONICS 2015

Rubicon Technology, a leading provider of sapphire substrates and products to the LED, semiconductor and optical markets, announced it will exhibit its high-quality optical sapphire, including the largest sapphire window ever produced, at the LASER World of PHOTONICS trade show from June 22-25 at the Munich Trade Fair Center. Rubicon will showcase its line of sapphire products in booth B1.418.

During the international trade show, Rubicon will display the world’s largest sapphire window, which measures in at 17 inches wide by 25 inches long and more than 1 inch thick. Marking a manufacturing breakthrough in the sapphire industry, the large window was produced using technology developed over the past three years. Previous production methods were incapable of supporting the growth of sapphire crystals at this size.

From sensors to lasers for medical use, sapphire is a desired material for the optical industry due to its beneficial properties, including its hardness and strength, transparency in the visible and infrared spectrum, thermal conductivity, thermal shock resistance, abrasion resistance, high melting point and chemical inertness. Sapphire provides product development teams with a rugged material that can withstand scratching, while providing incredible transparency.

“Rubicon’s ability to produce extremely high-quality sapphire in a variety of shapes and sizes has helped to expand the potential applications for our customers,” said Hap Hewes, senior vice president, Optical at Rubicon Technology. “Through new and innovative production processes, we have been able to successfully meet customer needs and develop sapphire in sizes and shapes never before seen. Our team is dedicated to innovation and finding new, effective uses for sapphire.”

In addition to the large sapphire window, Rubicon will display a wide variety of sapphire products in its booth, including optical products of different sizes and crystal orientation, sapphire cores, ingots, domes, windows and blanks.
