Osram Presents New XBO Lamps for Digital Cinema Projectors

June 21 to 23, 2016 will feature the latest movie productions and the latest technologies in the cinema industry. Osram will be presenting further developments of the classic XBO lamps for cinema projectors under the slogan “Light is glamour”. On show at booth 323 will be a number of products including extremely long-life models and new additions to the portfolio for projectors from Canadian manufacturer Christie.

As the successor to the carbon lamp, the XBO lamp from Osram revolutionized cinema projection worldwide in the 1950s, enabling Hollywood blockbusters to be seen for the first time in their true colors at cinemas in Europe. The fact that the gas discharge lamp “Made in Germany” is still being used today, more than 60 years later, in half of all cinema projectors throughout the world is due not only to its hitherto unrivaled luminance but also to its continual technical development. “Constant improvements in light output and performance have enabled us to extend the success of the XBO into the age of digital cinema projection. Our customers will particularly enjoy the exceptional long life of the new generation of lamps”, said Michael Willacker, Head of Professional and Industrial Applications at Osram.

A makeover for the stars

Thanks to the revised shape and improvements to the technical processes the new generation of XBO lamps, tailor-made for use in digital cinema projectors, offers the usual high quality of light, a color temperature of 6000 kelvin and much longer life. Optimum production processes prevent the lamp from fogging up. This reduces operating costs compared with those of competitor products which are manufactured under worse conditions and which therefore suffer from premature fogging because of impurities inside the lamp.

At CineEurope 2016 Osram is also showcasing the XBO 1400DTS and XBO 1600DTS, two new models for use in projectors CP 2210, CP 2215, Solaria One and Solaria One+ from Canadian manufacturer Christie. These additions mean that Osram can now supply all the lamps needed for these projector models. Osram’s XBO lamp portfolio therefore covers all leading projectors.
