it’s reported that Sony has an entire wall of its 11-inch XEL-1 OLED TVs set up here at Ceatec 2008, but in contrast with past gadget shows, it's not the only company showing off OLED prototypes. Panasonic may have said earlier this week that OLED is still far from becoming a mass-produced mainstream technology for use in big-screen TVs, but other electronics makers are plowing ahead with their own research on the organic, thin film technology: NEC, Sony, and KDDI showed off what they've been doing with OLED in their research labs.

DDP has developed a 120-Vac line voltage lamp that reduces power consumption and maintenance costs in a variety of indicator applications. The 120MBLS-X-CX wide-angle LED operates up to a maximum of 130 Vac, while drawing less than 8 mA, which translates into 85% lower power consumption than a standard 120V mini bayonet (MB).

Why use LED backlight？A few days ago in the IFA 2008 hosted in Berlin，many of the branded TV manufacturers introduced LED-backlighted TVs(LED TV)，aimed at the top layer of customers. Some leading manufacturers such as Sony and Samsung already introduced LED TV in 2006，but with the costs of LED have decreased and the LED technology has progressed rapidly, LED TV has moved toward a real product rather than just a demonstration of technology.

It’s reported that the energy saving trend has led Aixtron's sales to record heights in Q4/2007. Now the manufacturer of LED production equipment sees a "digestion phase" during which the semiconductor market will absorb the production capacity built up over the past quarters. The breakthrough of LED in general lighting applications will not come before the years 2012/2013, predicts Aixtron investor relations manager Guido Pickert.

Recently, the city’s planning department gave a briefing on LED billboards at a City Council study session, but the five aldermen in attendance expressed a concern over creating unneeded regulation.The LED billboards electronically change messages as often as every six to eight seconds. Recently, an Oppenheimer & Co. analyst upgraded Cree Inc., saying its LED are at last being adopted as a mainstream lighting product. The high cost of energy and efforts to curb greenhouse gases are prompting customers to consider energy-saving solutions, Oppenheimer analyst Yair Reiner wrote in a note late Thursday, in upgrading the company to "Outperform" from "Perform."

What is an AMOLED display? It’s known that the term AMOLED stands for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode/ Device/ Display. An Organic Light Emitting Diode(OLED), also Light Emitting Polymer (LEP) and Organic Electro Luminescence (OEL), is any Light Emitting Diode (LED) whose emissive electroluminescent layer is composed of a film of organic compounds. The layer usually contains a polymer substance that allows suitable organic compounds to be deposited. They are deposited in rows and columns onto a flat carrier by a simple printing process.

It’s reported that LED makers in mainland China are looking to expand market share by underlining more practical applications for the growing line. Many of them are stoking product development to increase LED’s appeal to consumers, while some are designing new LED products aimed at replacing conventional lighting technologies.
