TILS 2015 Focuses on OLED Technology and LED Lighting Design Applications

Taiwan International Lighting Show 2015 (TILS 2015) will be featuring its first OLED platform and lighting design zone, said organizers during the opening ceremony at TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall today.

Unlike previous lighting shows, where there were fewer OLED forum sessions or related products, OLED has been placed high on the show agenda this year.

“You may have noticed we have more lighting pavilions at this year’s show, including the first OELD lighting alliance,” said Ching-Yuan Lin, Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association. In addition, more than half of the forum sessions at the show have been dedicated to OLED technology this year.

Aside from OLED technology, the show also features other lighting applications including commercial lighting alliance, Industrial Technology Research Institute Green Energy and Environment Research Laboratories, and other innovative lighting applications.

To meet LED manufacturing market demands, the lighting show has also allocated an entire zone to sapphire and Patterned Sapphire Substrate (PSS), OLED manufacturing, high brightness LED technology, and latest LED manufacturing solutions. “More government funding has gone to support these lighting themes and OLED technology this year,” said Lin.

Focus on LED materials and manufacturing process is closely tied to Taiwan’s position in the LED chip and wafer market. Taiwanese manufacturers have invested $28 million in LED chip production, just slightly behind the world’s top investor China, said Terry Tsao, President of SEMI. Taiwan’s industry 4” wafer production capacity is projected to reach 3.15 million per month, and the country’s LED chip manufacturers rank in the global top 25 percentile, he added.

The show this year is expected to attract 16,000 visitors from Taiwan, and 1,400 international buyers. Special arrangements have been made for buyers from 12 countries including Canada, Brazil and Israel, said Wen-rong Huang, Secretary-General, TAITRA. Organizers project the show will generate a revenue of more than US $13 million this year.

More than 337 LED manufacturers have attended TILS 2015, which runs from March 25 to 28, bringing the total number of booths at this year’s show to 900.
