CN (Alexander) Sun, Principal of GUANG Lighting Design in Taiwan, talked about the application of LED in hotels and grand residences and discussed the “quality of light” in LEDforum 2013. Ulrike Birnbaum has designed for brands including Jaguar, Landrover, Disney, British Telecom, Bodyshop, Vapiano, Christie's Auction House, Bloomberg, Seabourne, Steiner Spa and many more. Having lived in Berlin, Amsterdam, London and New York, she gained experiences as an architectural lighting designer in the world of opera, cruise ship and show lighting. Before founding CONTINUUM STUDIOS, she worked for the 'English National Opera', and later joined 'ARUP' as a senior lighting designer.She was also previously the principal architectural lighting designer for Imagination Ltd. and worked for MRD in New York. Her decision to establish a company for architectural lighting design with studios in New York ,U.S. and Munich,Germany, brought together highly skilled lighting designers with various backgrounds, such as film, opera, product design, textile & material design, electrical engineering, 3D animation, graphic design and digital art. We interviewed Ulrike Birnbaum about her personal experiences with LED light fixtures in architectural lighting design.

According to LEDinside's investigation, Japanese manufacturers are categorized into the following types: lighting manufacturers, LED packaging manufacturers, LED materials manufacturers and new entrants, including major manufacturers such as Panasonic, Toshiba and Hitachi. The main focus of Japanese manufacturers is on the indoor lighting and the commercial lighting areas.

According to the analysis and statistics of LEDinside, a research division under TrendForce, the total revenues of listed Taiwan LED manufacturers was up to NTD 8.09 billion in January 2011(MoM-2.04%，YoY+15.9%). Regarding upstream chip manufacturers, these figures reached NTD 3.77 billion in January 2011, (MoM-0.7%; YoY+20.7%). The Chip LEDX moved back at 4,472 points, while Package LEDX rose to 5,001 points, showing a moderate uptrend.

According to the latest price survey by LEDinside, an LED research division of TrendForce, in 2010 Q4, demand from LED applications still has not recovered, including continued inventory adjustment of large-size panels and lower-than-expected demand from general lighting. As a result, pressure of LED price decline extends from 2010 Q3. Among them, price of LED for large-size panel applications fell by 5% -9%, with most substantial decline in TV backlight applications; high power LED lighting applications declined by more than 12%. Due to relatively stable demand from mobile phone applications, LED prices in this segment are fairly stable with a mere 3% seasonally adjusted decrease.
