AreaMax LED Light Fixture Receives International Dark Sky Seal of Approval

The AreaMax, Evluma’s 40W LED Light for Area and Security Lighting, has been awarded the IDA (International Dark Sky Association) Seal of Approval. To qualify, a fixture cannot emit any luminous output above 90 degrees in the vertical plane. Evluma’s qualifying model is the AMAX-40-4K-6-V-C. This model comes with a flat lens and has a BUG (Backlight, Uplight, and Glare) rating of B1-U0-G1. It is also available in a 4500°K color temperature.

The IDA is the authoritative voice on light pollution. Light pollution is defined as excessive and inappropriate artificial light. Light trespass, light falling where it is not intended, wanted, or needed and glare contribute to light pollution. A list of approved light fixtures can be found on the IDA website. Numerous utilities and municipalities have begun to implement lighting ordinances specifying such dark-sky friendly lighting solutions.

This isn’t the first time an Evluma product has borne the IDA Seal of Approval. In 2009 the 40W EcoSpot, a retrofit for HID dusk-till-dawn fixtures was awarded dark sky friendly status. “The new 40W AreaMax is a significant improvement over the 2009 EcoSpot. Evluma Clearlights are designed to retrofit 100-175W HID fixtures, while the AreaMax replaces these legacy fixtures altogether. The AreaMax optics provide a diffuse type V light pattern and plenty of light on the ground, exceeding the output of the EcoSpot and making it the front runner for any dark sky friendly lighting project,” says Cathleen Shattuck, Creative Director at Evluma. The AreaMax family of LED fixtures are also DLC approved and can be found the DLC Qualified Products list.

“With over 6000 AreaMax in the field today, it is apparent that many consumers are choosing outdoor LED fixtures that not only support their environmental ideals, but also save maintenance expense.” Each AreaMax ships with a revolutionary new Photocontrol Failsafe Mode built in, eliminating the need to replace the photocontrol when and if it should fail. Energy efficiency is enhanced when customers choose to purchase ConnectLED for their fixtures. ConnectLED allows customers to connect to their AreaMax fixtures via Bluetooth technology to create a customizable dimming schedule or adjust permanent brightness settings.
