LG CNS Develops Smart LED Lighting Solution

LG CNS, a subsidiary of LG, has recently developed a smart LED lighting solution particularly for factory facility applications, according to a report from The Korea Times.

The LG arm collaborated with other subsidiaries including LG Electronics to develop the LED lamps for the solution, which incorporated LG Chem material to block out ultraviolet rays, and also used LG Innotek’s LEDs.

The lighting system dubbed “smart lighting solution”, especially designed for factory applications, has been rolled out at LG Display factories in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, and Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, since September 2013.

The company has replaced a total of 530,000 fluorescent light tubes with LED lamps, and is reported to have slashed LG Display power consumption by more than 40 percent. Lighting expenses at the facility were also reduced by 6.8 billion won (US$ 6.6 million) a year, said LG CNS.

Company representatives explained the lighting system used a seven-step illumination process to help reduce energy consumption. Additionally, the company is vying to export the lighting system to the Chinese market.
